The Java Software Developer will play a pivotal role in the lifecycle of GE Vernova’s Grid Automation Software Configuration Tool (SCE). In this position, you will be responsible for building, enhancing, and maintaining this mission-critical desktop application to ensure peak performance for our users. A key focus of this role is the adoption and integration of AI-powered development workflows; you will leverage cutting-edge AI coding assistants to accelerate feature development, automate testing, refactor complex legacy code, and drive continuous improvement in our software architecture.Job Description
Role Overview –

Key Responsibilities –
- Application Development: Design and code high-performance desktop tool features using Core & Advanced Java with artificial intelligence tools to automate UI (frontend + backend) design and speed up coding, testing practices.
- UI/UX Implementation: Create responsive and intuitive graphical user interfaces (GUIs) using Swing, Java.
- Testing & Debugging: Write unit tests, run integration tests, execute sub-system checks, optimize memory usage and fix software bugs.
- System Integration: Connect desktop tool modules to packaged databases or remote servers, REST APIs using widely Project object models & velocity templates.
- Maintenance: Optimize legacy desktop code, reduce memory leaks, and upgrade runtime environments (JRE/JDK). Maintain code check styles, formatting and refactor older codebases.
- Collaboration: Work with QA/V&V teams, product owners, architects and stakeholders to refine & develop an efficient tool having reliable features.
- Documentations: Update/Create technical guides including Specs, HLD, LLD, Class level diagrams and Release Notes.
- Mentor & Guide: Ability to mentor and guide either new joiners or CWs to plan, provide technical support etx.
AI Agentic Skills
- AI Scaffolding: Utilize AI coding agents to accelerate backend scaffolding, perform automated refactoring, and maintain up-to-date documentation.
- Multi-Step Workflows: Craft and execute prompts for multi-step agentic workflows to automate the full development lifecycle (service generation, automated testing, and documentation).
- AI-Driven Quality Assurance: Review AI-generated backend code specifically for OWASP security compliance and performance optimization.
- CI/CD Integration: Integrate AI-assisted code review processes directly into PR/CI/CD pipelines to ensure consistent code standards and automated vulnerability scanning
Required Skills –
- Programming: Strong command of Core Java (JDK 6, 8+) and OOPs including Collections, Generics, Lambdas, and the Stream API. Hands-On Knowledge of XML, JAXB, Spring Boot, Microservices, Scripting languages.
- Desktop Frameworks: Hands-on experience with JavaFX, Swing, or SWT. Basic understandings of Test-Driven Development and Unit Testing (Mockito) is highly appreciated.
- Concurrency: Deep understanding of multithreading to ensure smooth UI performance tuning in system designs. Knowledge of JVM, its limitations, weaknesses, and workarounds.
- Databases: Familiarity with local structural databases (xml based) or relational SQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL).
- Build & Version Tools: Experience with IDEs like Eclipse or IntelliJ IDEA, Maven, Ant and Git. Working Knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo, Jenkins. Understandings of DevOps & CI/CD infrastructure.
- Process: Knowledge of Agile/Scrum/Kanban development process. Basic understandings of SAFe/Lean environment models.
- Nice To have skills: Familiarity with Java Object Store (basically, PSE/PSE Pro) will be appreciated. Knowledge in power transmission and electrical circuits is an add-on.
Qualifications –
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field (“STEM” Majors).
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of professional software tool building hands-on development experience.
- Interpersonal skills: A Critical thinker and problem-solving competent. A good Team player having great interpersonal and communication skills with good time-management adaptation.
- Language: Fluent in English.
