À propos de ce poste Senior Software Engineer (AMS) chez Teamworks
We're hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to tackle some of the toughest performance and scalability challenges in our Athlete Management System (AMS), owning the work from initial investigation through production. I'm Charbel Al Batal, Director, Engineering at Teamworks. AMS supports elite sports and military organizations around the world and runs on a Java application with roughly twenty years of history. We’re building on that foundation to support significantly larger workloads, making thoughtful improvements where they will have the greatest impact.
We’re expanding the AMS backend team as part of a major effort to improve performance, reliability, and scale. The work includes evolving a legacy data model, reworking asynchronous processing, and strengthening observability. We’re looking for an engineer who enjoys digging into complex, established systems and finding practical ways to improve them. You’ll have meaningful influence over how AMS evolves—particularly its data-access patterns, asynchronous architecture, containerization strategy, and approach to performance at scale—and customers will directly feel the impact of your work.
The Role
Find and address performance bottlenecks across APIs, database queries, calculations, and background jobs, with a focus on improving latency, throughput, and resource use
Improve the data-access layer and gradually evolve a legacy data model that relies heavily on XML and JSON
Strengthen our queue and asynchronous processing architecture so resource-intensive workloads are separated from customer-facing traffic, calculations complete as close to real time as possible, and retries and failures are handled reliably
Improve monitoring and observability, establish performance baselines for large workloads, and help the team spot issues before they affect customers
Operate with a high degree of independence, turning broad performance and scalability goals into technical plans and driving them through production
Partner with our Data Platform team as AMS becomes an early consumer of Teamworks’ evolving data platform, helping integrate new data capabilities into an established application
Serve as a trusted technical partner to engineering leadership by reviewing complex architectural changes, mentoring engineers, and helping the team balance immediate scaling needs with longer-term improvements
What I'm Looking For
What You Must Bring
6+ years of backend engineering experience, including ownership of complex systems from design through production
Strong Java skills and hands-on experience working with and improving established codebases
Experience with PostgreSQL, RESTful API design, and performance optimization at scale
Experience operating backend applications in AWS and working effectively with containerized infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code tooling
US citizenship and US-based residency, which are required for access to the secure environment supported by this role
Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation
Even Better If
Experience moving monolithic applications toward containerized or service-oriented architectures
Experience in data-intensive, high-scale, or security-sensitive environments
Experience with Python
A strong understanding of the JVM, including how to troubleshoot memory and CPU issues under load
A DevOps background and deep experience with AWS
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
Why This Role
You’ll have the opportunity to shape the future of a well-established product used by elite sports and military organizations around the world. The challenges are complex, the work has a clear impact, and you’ll have meaningful ownership over how AMS grows and performs. It’s a strong fit for someone who likes solving difficult backend problems and wants to see those improvements make a difference for customers.
