À propos de ce poste Senior Snowflake Platform Engineer chez Praxis Precision Medicines, Inc.
Location: This position may be performed remotely, but requires the flexibility and willingness to travel as needed.
The Opportunity
Praxis is expanding the engineering team behind the data foundation that powers our growing commercial organization. As a Senior Snowflake Platform Engineer, you will own the reliability, governance, security, and cost transparency of our Snowflake environment as the scale and importance of our data operations grow.
You will take a hands-on approach to platform engineering—solving production issues at their root, automating recurring work, strengthening controls, and building the monitoring and recovery capabilities that make the platform easier for others to operate. You will work closely with Data Engineering, Security, Identity, AWS, and commercial technology partners to ensure critical data is available, appropriately protected, and ready when the business needs it.
You will measure success by more than keeping Snowflake running. You will leave behind a platform that is increasingly reliable, observable, automated, cost-transparent, and supportable by the broader team—giving our engineers more capacity to build capabilities that ultimately support our mission for patients.
Primary Responsibilities
- Own Snowflake platform operations and health, including databases, schemas, warehouses, roles, tasks, procedures, and related services across development, test, and production environments. Maintain clear ownership and an accurate inventory of critical platform assets.
- Strengthen platform security and governance by designing and automating role-based access, object ownership, grants, and access lifecycle controls. Partner with Identity and Security teams to maintain least-privilege access, effective identity integration, and timely access reviews and removal.
- Drive platform reliability and proactively resolve issues across workloads, ingestion, dependencies, authentication, and data freshness. Perform root-cause analysis, implement durable solutions, and establish monitoring and alerts that identify issues before they affect users.
- Build resilient and repeatable production support practices through actionable monitoring, runbooks, escalation paths, recovery procedures, and rollback capabilities. Participate in incident response, validate recovery approaches, and cross-train colleagues to eliminate single points of dependency.
- Manage and optimize Snowflake consumption by establishing visibility into usage by workload and owner, identifying meaningful consumption trends, developing forecasts and thresholds, and optimizing warehouse configuration and high-cost workloads without compromising reliability or performance.
- Automate and strengthen platform change management using version control, testing, peer review, automation, and controlled promotion across environments. Coordinate release readiness and regression testing across Snowflake, connected applications, vendor integrations, and AWS dependencies.
- Create transparency and continuously improve the platform by reporting on reliability, access hygiene, consumption, and outstanding risks. Simplify unnecessary complexity, build reusable automation, maintain meaningful documentation, and thoughtfully apply AI to accelerate engineering while protecting data and production quality.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of relevant experience across data platforms, cloud engineering, or data engineering—or equivalent demonstrated technical depth—with substantial hands-on experience operating Snowflake in production.
- Strong SQL and Python skills, including experience automating operational work and investigating complex production failures.
- Deep practical knowledge of Snowflake security and operations, including roles, grants, object ownership, warehouses, tasks, stored procedures, and operational telemetry.
- Experience managing enterprise identities, service credentials, least-privilege access, and access lifecycle controls in partnership with Identity and Security teams.
- Demonstrated ability to understand platform consumption, optimize workloads, and make thoughtful tradeoffs among cost, performance, and reliability.
- Experience with Git-based development, peer review, automated testing, controlled releases, monitoring, incident response, and documented recovery procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent practical experience.
- The physical and mental requirements of our roles include but are not limited to regular use of a computer, devices or other office equipment, clear communication, and occasional movement. You'll need comfort with screen work, basic hand coordination, and focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.
