Job Description:

We fight for the children of Maine. The Child Support Division of the Office of the Attorney General is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team of dedicated professionals in the Bangor office.  This full-time (40 hours/week) Senior Paralegal (RA) will provide in-office support to Child Support AAGs with heavy litigation caseloads.

Duties include providing specialized legal support involving advanced complex legal investigation, research and evaluation for Child Support AAGs, the Division Chief and other legal staff. 

Some responsibilities include:

• Conduct independent review and analysis of child support referrals
• Apply in-depth knowledge of child support law, Maine statutes and rules
• Draft legal documents such as complaints and motions
• Track large caseloads, keeping an accurate calendar of all scheduled court actions and informing attorneys of all deadlines and necessary appearances.
• Serve as lead paralegal
• Process electronic filings in Federal, State and Probate Courts
• Make case-specific decisions
• Make self-directed contact with clients, courts, opposing counsel and unrepresented parents
• Work as part of a team to address and solve advanced complex legal issues.

The ideal candidate must be self-directed, highly organized and accurate, with the ability to work efficiently and independently. The candidate must be able to work well on a team with attorneys and staff at all levels and to communicate professionally with the client, the public, co-workers and supervisors. A strong work ethic is imperative.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelors Degree and three (3) years of paralegal experience in a law firm, court, or legal services agency -OR- an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience supporting multiple attorneys in a law office setting and who are proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products.
