À propos de ce poste Senior Engineer, Automation/Mechatronics Engineering – Research & Technology chez ResMed
Imagine working with a global team of more than 10,000 talented people who are committed to creating the world’s best medical technology. Imagine a role where your skills and attributes will contribute to improving millions of lives.
Because at Resmed, you will.
Let’s talk about the Team
Join our Moulding Research & Technology (R&T) Engineering Team and help shape the next generation of manufacturing capabilities for Resmed.
The R&T team explores and matures new manufacturing technologies before they enter formal NPI delivery. We work across automation, robotics, mechatronics, tooling, moulding, sensing, inspection, and digital technologies to solve emerging manufacturing challenges.
The team works closely with Product Development, NPI Engineering, Manufacturing, Tooling Design, Quality, and external technology partners.
Our goal is not only to solve today's manufacturing problems. Our goal is to build scalable technology platforms and capabilities that can enable future products and manufacturing systems.
Let’s talk about the Role
As a Senior Engineer, Automation/Mechatronics Engineering – Research & Technology, you will lead the exploration, development, and maturation of emerging automation and mechatronics technologies for future manufacturing applications.
You will translate manufacturing challenges and future product needs into technology concepts, prototypes, and demonstrators. You will use rapid experimentation to understand what works, what does not work, and what needs to be developed further.
You will work across mechanical systems, robotics, controls, sensing, machine vision, and software to develop integrated mechatronic solutions.
The role will focus on taking technologies from early concept and feasibility through proof of concept and production-relevant demonstration, before transferring mature solutions to NPI teams for product-specific industrialisation and validation.
You will have the freedom to experiment, challenge existing approaches, and work with internal and external technology partners while keeping patient safety, manufacturability, scalability, and long-term business value in mind.
Let’s Talk About Responsibilities
Technology Exploration & Proof of Concept
- Identify and evaluate emerging automation, robotics, sensing, machine vision, and mechatronics technologies that could improve future manufacturing capabilities.
- Translate manufacturing challenges and future product requirements into clear technical hypotheses and experimental plans.
- Design and build proof-of-concept systems to rapidly test new ideas.
- Use structured experimentation to determine technical feasibility, capability, limitations, and key risks.
- Make clear recommendations on whether technologies should be advanced, redirected, partnered externally, or stopped.
Mechatronics & Automation Development
- Design integrated mechatronic systems combining mechanical mechanisms, actuators, sensors, robotics, controls, machine vision, and software.
- Develop automation architectures for new and emerging manufacturing processes.
- Design and prototype fixtures, material-handling concepts, motion systems, and experimental equipment.
- Develop PLC, robotic, motion-control, machine-vision, and data-acquisition solutions where required.
- Develop modular and reusable automation concepts that can be adapted across products and manufacturing platforms.
Technology Maturation
- Progress promising technologies from laboratory concepts toward production-relevant demonstrations.
- Evaluate technology maturity against manufacturing requirements such as quality, cycle time, reliability, safety, maintainability, scalability, and cost.
- Identify technical gaps that need to be closed before transfer into NPI.
- Build sufficient technical evidence so that NPI teams can confidently adopt and industrialise the technology.
Design for Scale & Manufacturing Readiness
- Develop new technologies with future scale-up and manufacturing deployment in mind.
- Collaborate with NPI engineers to ensure new technology concepts can transition from R&T into production-intent development.
- Capture key design principles, operating requirements, lessons learned, and technical risks that will support downstream industrialisation.
- Where possible, develop common automation platforms and design standards that can be reused across multiple programs.
Cross-Functional Technology Development
- Work closely with Product Development to understand emerging product concepts and identify future manufacturing capability needs.
- Partner with moulding, tooling, automation, manufacturing systems, quality, and NPI teams to develop integrated manufacturing solutions.
- Translate manufacturing challenges into clear technical requirements for external development partners.
- Share technical learning across teams and sites to avoid repeated development work.
Technical Leadership & Capability Building
- Act as a technical mentor for engineers working on automation and mechatronics development.
- Challenge existing manufacturing approaches and introduce new technologies where they can create meaningful value.
- Develop reusable engineering knowledge, design guidelines, reference architectures, and technology platforms.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to engineering leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
Let’s talk about you
You are naturally curious and enjoy solving problems that do not yet have obvious answers. You are comfortable starting with incomplete information and turning broad manufacturing challenges into structured engineering experiments.
You combine strong hands-on engineering skills with systems thinking. You enjoy building prototypes, testing ideas, analysing failures, and improving designs.
You understand that successful R&T is not about demonstrating an interesting prototype once. It is about developing enough understanding and technical evidence so that a technology can eventually become a reliable and scalable manufacturing capability.
You work well across disciplines and actively share knowledge so that technical learning becomes an organisational capability rather than remaining within an individual project.
Let’s talk about Qualifications and Experience
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, Robotics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Significant hands-on experience developing automation, robotics, mechatronic, or advanced manufacturing systems.
- Strong understanding of integrated mechanical, electrical, control, and sensing systems.
- Experience developing prototypes and proof-of-concept equipment.
- Experience with PLC, robotic, motion-control, or industrial automation systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work across mechanical, electrical, software, controls, and manufacturing disciplines.
- Ability to translate loosely defined technical problems into clear engineering requirements and experiments.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts, findings, risks, and recommendations to different audiences.
- Comfortable working in an environment where technologies may fail, change direction, or require multiple development iterations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong mechanical design capability using SolidWorks, Creo, Siemens NX, or equivalent tools.
- Experience designing mechanisms, jigs, fixtures, end-of-arm tooling, and automated material-handling systems.
- Experience with Fanuc or other industrial/collaborative robotics platforms.
- Experience with Allen Bradley/Rockwell PLC and HMI systems.
- Experience with machine vision, industrial cameras, sensors, force control, or advanced inspection technologies.
- Experience with rapid prototyping, additive manufacturing, simulation, or digital engineering tools.
- Experience integrating data acquisition, sensing, or analytics into experimental manufacturing systems.
- Exposure to artificial intelligence, machine learning, advanced vision, digital twins, or intelligent automation would be advantageous.
- Experience developing new manufacturing technologies from concept through production-relevant demonstration.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role is measured by more than equipment delivery.
You will be successful when you:
- Turn important manufacturing challenges into clear technology development programs.
- Rapidly determine which technologies are viable and which should not be pursued.
- Build convincing proof-of-concept and production-relevant demonstrators.
- Increase technology maturity and reduce technical uncertainty before NPI adoption.
- Develop reusable automation and mechatronics platforms rather than one-off solutions.
- Transfer technology to NPI with clear technical evidence, requirements, risks, and design knowledge.
- Build new manufacturing capabilities that improve Resmed's ability to develop and scale future products.
