Job Summary

The Senior Counsel or Assistant General Counsel will provide expert legal advice and guidance to the organization on a wide range of legal issues. This role will work closely with various departments, primarily Regulatory, to support business objectives. This role may involve drafting and negotiating contracts; handling transactions, drafting testimony, appearance before regulatory bodies, discovery requests and responses, pleadings, and briefs; managing legal risks; and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Senior Counsel or Assistant General Counsel may also represent the company in legal proceedings and meetings with external parties.

Job Description

What You'll Do:

• Represent AEP Texas in proceedings before the Public Utility Commission.
• Provide strategic legal advice on business initiatives.
• Lead contract negotiations for major projects and provide strategic legal advice on business initiatives.
• Oversee compliance programs to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements from agencies such as the FERC and state public utility commissions.
• Represent regulated subsidiaries in proceedings before federal or state regulatory agencies.
• Manage litigation processes and coordinate with outside legal counsel on significant disputes.
• Develop training and compliance programs for employees related to industry regulations and best practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of legal strategies with business objectives.

What We're Looking For:

Senior Counsel:

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited US law school

Experience:

• 7+ years of legal experience, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department and in the electric utility or energy sector.

Assistant General Counsel:

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctorate.

Experience:

• Eight plus years of experience as a practicing regulatory attorney in private practice or in a corporate legal department.

Certifications/Licenses: 

• Active license to practice law in TX.

Compensation Range:

$160,434.00 - $245,079.00
