Responsibilities / Tasks
- Perform high quality TIG welding on stainless steel and other centrifuge component materials, including precision repair of cracks, wear areas, and structural defects.
- Execute MIG welding operations for structural repairs and build up applications.
- Perform PTA welding for high precision hardfacing of decanter scroll flights and wear prone surfaces.
- Apply flame spraying techniques for hardfacing and surface restoration of decanter scrolls and other wear components.
- Build up worn or eroded surfaces to restore original geometry and functional dimensions.
- Ensure weld integrity, penetration, and metallurgical quality in accordance with repair specifications and applicable standards.
- Control heat input and distortion to maintain dimensional stability or precision components.
- Perform all grinding operations required for repair preparation, including beveling, edge preparation and weld joint preparation.
- Remove existing coatings, hardfacing layers, corrosion products, and worn surface materials using appropriate mechanical grinding methods.
- Perform grinding to restore geometry, surface finish and dimensional requirements after welding or coating processes.
- Ensure all surfaces meet cleanliness and roughness requirements prior to welding or coating applications.
- Perform polishing of stainless steel components to restore surface finish and meet hygiene, process or functional requirements.
- Remove weld discoloration, oxidation and surface imperfections following welding operations.
- Safely handle large and heavy rotating equipment to prevent damage or distortion.
- Other duties as assigned by manager.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED – good foundation in math, physics and mechanical properties
- Technical education in mechanical engineering, industrial mechanics, machining, or a related field.
- Additional training in precision mechanics, rotating equipment, or machine repair is highly desirable.
- Formal training or certification in non destructive testing (specially dye penetrant testing) is an advantage.
- Welding qualification (TIG/MIG certifications)
- Minimum 3-5 years of hands on experience in mechanical repair, machining or maintenance of industrial equipment.
- Experience with welding, grinding, and surface restoration techniques in an industrial repair environment.
- Experience interpreting technical drawings, repair specifications, and engineering instructions

- Heat input control to minimize distortion.
- Mechanical understanding or rotating equipment.
- Clear communication of technical issues, progress, and repair concerns.
- Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship in welding, grinding, and finishing work.
- Strict adherence to safety procedures in welding, grinding, and surface treatment operations.
