The Project Manager (Interconnection Facility - IF) is responsible for the overall execution and delivery of utility-scale solar High Voltage Interconnection Facilities (IF) projects from the 33kV switchgear interface through 132kV & 275kV substations and transmission interconnection, ensuring safe, timely, quality and cost-effective project completion.
The role manages site execution, contractor performance, project schedule, stakeholder coordination and interface management with clients, consultants, TNB and internal business units.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Lead the execution of multiple HV Interconnection Facility (IF) projects simultaneously.
- Develop and monitor project execution plans, milestones and recovery plans.
- Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget and in accordance with contractual requirements.
- Identify project risks and implement mitigation plans.
Construction & Site Execution
- Manage and supervise EPC contractors responsible for civil, electrical, testing & commissioning works.
- Coordinate construction activities covering:
- 33kV Switchgear
- 132kV & 275kV Substations (AIS/GIS)
- Power transformers
- Underground power cables
- Transmission line interconnection
- Telecontrol & ICT interfaces
- Monitor contractor productivity, workmanship and compliance with project requirements.
- Resolve site issues and coordinate technical support with the Engineering team.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary interface with:
- Clients
- Owner's Engineer
- TNB (Grid, Distribution and Asset divisions)
- Consultants
- Local Authorities
- Attend project progress meetings and technical coordination meetings.
- Ensure timely submission of project reports and action plans.
Interface Coordination
- Coordinate closely with internal Design, Procurement, Contracts and HSE teams to ensure smooth project execution.
- Manage engineering deliverables required for construction and energisation.
- Coordinate equipment delivery and construction readiness.
Testing & Energisation
- Coordinate contractor testing and commissioning activities.
- Ensure all pre-energisation requirements are completed.
- Support TNB inspections, witness testing and final energisation activities.
- Drive timely project completion and commercial operation.
Project Controls
- Monitor project schedule and progress.
- Prepare weekly and monthly project reports.
- Manage project risks, issues, change requests and recovery actions.
- Ensure timely closure of NCRs, punch lists and outstanding issues.
Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor Project Engineers assigned to each project.
- Allocate resources across multiple projects.
- Promote continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the IF team.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or equivalent.
Experience
- Minimum 8 years of experience in HV substation, transmission or utility-scale renewable energy projects.
- Minimum 3 years in a Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer role.
- Proven experience delivering 33kV, 132kV and/or 275kV substation or interconnection projects.
- Mandatory experience dealing with TNB requirements, standards and project execution.
- Experience managing EPC contractors and multidisciplinary construction activities.
