Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Principal / Sr. Principal DevOps Engineer to join our Software team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located onsite in Melbourne, Florida.

The role of DevOps Engineer is instrumental in the smooth operation of IT infrastructure, along with software development and deployment processes. This role integrates and administers DevOps tools, especially the Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo, etc.), ensuring optimal workflow and collaboration between development and operations teams.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to take ownership of hard problems and drive to a solution, while working in a team environment. The engineer will work closely with the software engineers participating in the full life cycle of software development. Primary tasks to include the design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automating and streamlining the software delivery process that meet the requirements of the program.  The DevOps Engineer will interact with cross discipline teams, program management, and on occasion government customers. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills are required.  Experience working with Python and other scripting languages within the Linux environment is required. 

Essential Functions:

• Understanding of the full software lifecycle. (Design, implementation, and unit testing of software)
• Experience working with continuous integration and continuous development CI/CD.
• Work with various team members to automate and integrate functionality with other software environment.
• Experience with automation of scheduled jobs to reduce labor intensive tasks. (i.e. program and script build and test plans with artifact generation.)
• Experience with Atlassian application suite (Jira, Confluence, Bamboo, Bitbucket)
• Experience with other pipeline tools (e.g. Jenkins, Synopsis, SonaType)
• Experience in designing and developing release cycle and deployment operations.
• Experience scripting with some or all: YAML, JSON, Python, BASH, PowerShell

This position may be filled at either a Principal DevOps Engineer Level 3 or Sr. Principal DevOps Engineer Level 4

Basic Qualifications for Principal / Sr. Principal DevOps Engineer:

• (Principal DevOps Engineer, Level 3) Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 1 years of related engineering experience.
• (Senior Principal DevOps Engineer, Level 4) Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 4 years of related engineering experience
• Experience with developing automation solutions supporting the CI/CD pipeline.
• Experience configuring RedHat Linux and Microsoft Windows within a secure environment.
• Experience using python and other scripting languages in a development environment.
• Familiarity with the Atlassian tool suite, and plugins, Git and Confluence.
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs (interim secret clearance required to start)
• Willingness to work off-peak for short term surge support to meet program milestones.

Preferred Qualifications for Principal / Sr. Principal DevOps Engineer:

• Master’s degree within a technical field with relevant CI/CD and automation experience
• 2+ years of experience in Build & Release principles and technical implementations
• 2+ years of experience in automation applications and frameworks
• Ability to lead a team and /or provide leadership to drive solutions of complex problem
• Expert in working knowledge of python and Bash scripting
• Experience with SELinux and Microsoft Windows development and configuration
• Experience with configuration control of Linux rpms
• RedHat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or RedHat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
• Familiarity with the Agile software development process
• Experience in Source Code Version Control (Bitbucket, Gitlab)
• Experience in automation servers (Bamboo, Jenkins)
• Experience in automated testing (Selenium, Unit, Coverity)
• Experience in software containerization (Docker)
• Experience in container Orchestration (Kubernetes)
• Experience in Configuration Management and Deployment (Ansible, SaltStack)
• Experience with Application Containerization

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
