Job Summary
APPLY BY EMAIL ONLY - APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS BELOWThe proposed project involves advancing polarization sensitive optical coherence tomography (PSOCT) to reveal the 3D neuronal architecture and connectivity in the developmental cerebellum. The overarching goal is to map the cerebellum development in the first years and to understand the impact of prematurity (preterm infants) in cerebellum growth and the overall development. We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with an interest in biomedical optics and neuroimaging. The candidate will be working directly with Drs Hui Wang and Lilla Zollei, integrated into the Hui Wang Lab, part of Laboratories for Computational Neuroimaging (https://lcn.martinos.org/) at the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging, Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. This project involves a highly collaborative environment and interaction with multidisciplinary teams. The Fellow will obtain training in independent research and grant writing and will have great opportunities to launch an independent investigation.
The Wang lab develops novel optical imaging tools that combines with MRI, molecular labeling, and computational modeling to study the underlying structures supporting the complex functions in the brain. One focus area is to develop next generation large-scale microscopic imaging techniques to map the neuroarchitecture, vasculature, and connectivity in the whole brain and study alternations in neurological disorders.
Responsibilities:
- Optical system design, test, and characterization.
- Volumetric microscopy data processing, physical model based data analysis, and data interpretation.
- Experimental design; work with research technicians to conduct data collection and analysis.
- Present progresses to our collaborators and in scientific conferences; publish the work in a timely manner; support future grant applications.
- Collaborate with other research members and clinical staff to further advance the goals of the research project
Qualifications
Qualification requirements:
- Ph.D. in optics, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a related field.
- Strong research background in biomedical optics, microscopy, or optical engineering.
- Ability to work independently and with additional training to become an independent researcher.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated by publication and conference presentation records.
- Experience with optical design, simulation, 3D CAD design, and programing language in control, DAQ, and real time data processing is desired.
- Research experience with polarization sensitive optical coherence tomography is a strong plus.
- Strong computational skills, such as signal processing, optimization, or machine learning is a plus.
- Research experience in neuroimaging is preferred, but not required.
The appointment is for two years with the possibility of continuation based on annual performance evaluation.
The salary range for this position is $71,750 to $73,544 annually.
