Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician II is responsible for performing a variety of duties in the pharmacy and the Cancer Center, including routine filling or refilling of medications, sterile IV compounding, chemotherapy medication and supply orders, restocking, cleaning and maintaining the IV room, packaging, clerical duties, and other standardized tasks.This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
This position reports to the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.

Essential Functions
Fill Cancer Center, Surgery, Recovery Room, or other orders for supplies, standard medications, etc.
Order chemotherapy medications and related supplies.
Deliver patient medications, standard stock, and/or other pharmaceutical items to patient units or clinics.
Maintain prescribed usage, stocking, control, or other detailed records. Restock and/or load medications into Automated Dispensing Machine (ADM) units on each nursing unit as needed or per refill schedule. Deliver controlled drugs to nursing units as directed by a Pharmacist.
Check incoming purchased medications, supplies, etc., for conformity to invoices or packing slips. Report shortages, discrepancies, damaged goods, etc. Place items in proper storage and rotate stock daily.
Prepare IV solutions utilizing aseptic techniques and following USP 797 and 800 standards, including the preparation of chemotherapy.
Clean and maintain the IV suite and document all maintenance tasks in a timely manner.
Package bulk medications or supplies into the required form for dispensing. Restock working storage areas from main bulk storage. Reorder stock medications and supplies as necessary.
Perform monthly inspections of all drug storage areas and ADM units of the hospital under the direction of pharmacy management or staff pharmacists, following guidelines as mandated by The Joint Commission.
Maintain various records, reports, and files. Maintain proficiency with multiple pharmacy software systems. Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
Answer the telephone; take or relay messages; and answer routine questions. Requisition department supplies and assist with ordering. Rotate shifts as assigned, if necessary, to maintain department function.
Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement programs, compliance, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences, or in-services; professional affiliations; or journals to stay abreast of current trends in the field of expertise.
Meet annual competency and retraining requirements.
Attend meetings as required.
Perform other functions/duties as requested.
