Payroll Manager – New Zealand

We are looking for an experienced and strategic Payroll Manager to lead the delivery of payroll services across our New Zealand operations. This is an exciting opportunity for a payroll professional who combines technical expertise with strong leadership skills and a passion for continuous improvement.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate, compliant, and timely delivery of payroll services while driving operational excellence, enhancing systems and processes, and developing a high-performing team.

You’ll be experienced in significant-sized end-to-end payroll delivery – if you have experience with our new HCM (Workday) and payroll (Datapay) systems even better! You’re curious and enthusiastic to proactively upskill, remaining current and sharing knowledge in employment-related policy and regulations. You thrive on the value you and your team will contribute to our people, ensuring timelines are met and accuracy is assured.
- Lead and oversee end-to-end payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing across the business.
- Maintain strong governance and best-practice controls across payroll, general ledger interfaces, reporting, and compliance processes.
- Support ongoing enhancement and optimisation of our payroll and HCM systems.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across payroll processes, systems, policies, and controls.
- Monitor and interpret changes in employment legislation, taxation, remuneration, superannuation, and payroll-related regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Manage annual payroll activities, including remuneration reviews, bonus payments, year-end reporting, and statutory obligations.
- Lead payroll tax compliance, audits, and engagement with internal and external auditors.
- Partner with Finance, People & Culture, and business leaders to provide strategic payroll insights and support business objectives.
- Report on payroll performance, compliance outcomes, and strategic initiatives to senior leadership.
- Build capability within the team through coaching, mentoring, knowledge sharing, and leadership.
