SUMMARY: Reports to Director, Brown University Health Retail Pharmacy Services or Director, Specialty Pharmacy Services as applicable. Responsible for managing all operational, professional, and clinical activities for pharmacy operations at assigned Brown University Health Pharmacy (LP) site. Serves as the designated Pharmacist-in-Charge and Registrant for assigned Brown University Health Pharmacy site and is personally accountable to the Rhode Island (RI) Department of Health (DoH) and federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for the entire scope of activities intrinsic to these designations. Ensures compliance with state, federal, organizational, and accrediting organization requirements. Ensures appropriate clinical pharmacist, pharmacy technician, and student intern scheduling. Ensures budgetary adherence for labor, payroll, sales, script count, inventory levels and expenses. Completes annual performance appraisal for clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and student interns and serves as coach and mentor to develop staff. Oversees and closely reviews the work of clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and student interns. Collaborates with multidisciplinary care providers to monitor, assess, and intervene as needed to ensure safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication use. RESPONSIBILITIES: Pursuant to Pharmacist-in-Charge and Registrant designations at the assigned Brown University Health Pharmacy licensed site is responsible to:Ensure the assigned LP licensed site meets the requirements set forth by federal and state law,RI Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations, and other applicable state regulations, including those pertaining to:All pharmacy licensed employee activities, including those beyond direct and indirect reports.All medication use and storage areas under the pharmacy license.All dispensing, compounding, order review, collaborative practice, and pharmacy clinical services being performed at the licensed location, even where no direct oversight.All pharmacy related policies, procedures, laws, rules and regulations and the activities performed under them.Any controlled substance loss or diversion at the assigned LP licensed location, regardless of role of individual diverting.All reports of significant controlled substance loss or diversion to State Board of Pharmacy and local Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).Completion of biennial controlled substance inventory and maintenance of required records pertaining to receiving, dispensing, transferring, and reverse distribution of all control substances on site.Environmental conditions of all medication areas and assurance of pharmacy staff safety.Maintains knowledge of and compliance with regulations related to compoundingincluding those promulgated by the Rhode Island Department of Health, Rhode Island Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations, United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) Chapters 795 and 800, and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).Ensures the highest standards of customer service are consistently executed, and that clinical pharmacist and pharmacy technician scheduling is adequate to meet patient/customer needs.Ensures clinical pharmacists consistently execute all established standards of service.Ensures budgetary adherence for labor, payroll, sales, script count, inventory levels, and expenses.Ensures new budgeted programs, initiatives, and technology are successfully implemented.Oversees compliance with the 340B drug purchasing program for pharmacies that serve as a contract pharmacy for one or more 340B covered entities.Ensures quality assurance standards are met, continually seeks out measures for improvement.Ensures staff participation in quality assessment and improvement activities and total quality management initiatives, including the adverse drug reaction, pharmacist clinical intervention, and medication incident reporting programs.Ensures staff is appropriately trained, follow policies and procedures, and complete required continuing education and corporate compliance learning modules.Precepts pharmacy interns and residents. Serves as a coach and mentor for all staff by assigning projects and establishing goals while providing continuous feedback.Completes annual performance appraisals for clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and student interns. Initiates and conducts corrective action plans, when appropriate.Interviews and hires new staff, ensures new employee on-boarding is completed.Adjusts workflow to achieve maximal productivity and efficiency.Maintains appropriate documentation and records regarding drug purchasing, storage, preparation, and distribution as required by organizational procedures and/or applicable laws, rules, and regulations.Ensures that refrigerated and frozen medications are stored at optimal temperatures and that optimal temperatures are maintained until medications are delivered to the patient.Monitors and drives sales and script count goals; interprets financial and performance metrics on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis as applicable to the site. Obtains full licensure prior to expiration of 90-day temporary pharmacist license, then possesses and maintains current unrestricted licensure as a licensed pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island.QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE:Three years progressively more responsible related experience, preferably gained in a similarly diverse and operationally complex health care environment is desired.Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact appropriately with patients, families, colleagues, and others.Effective organizational and presentation skills.Knowledge of area/specialty specific technology, including, but not limited to, pharmacy information systems, automated dispensing technology, software, equipment, and automation. Experience with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and web browsers.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:Direct supervision of up to 60 FTEs.
