Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Gas Metering and Communication Systems (AMI) Product Development Team. This role will support New Product Development and Sustaining Engineering. In this role, you will contribute to new product development from concept through production launch while also supporting current products to develop solutions to resolve production and field challenges. This is a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands-on development, cross-functional collaboration, and solving real-world product challenges.
What You’ll Do
- Design mechanical components, assemblies, interfaces, and environmental packaging for rugged outdoor electromechanical products.
- Support product development from concept through launch, ensuring designs meet performance, quality, cost, and schedule goals.
- Create and maintain drawings, specifications, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.
- Use tools such as 3D CAD, tolerance analysis, and FEA to guide design decisions.
- Partner with electrical, software, firmware, systems, manufacturing, quality, testing, supply chain, and product management teams.
- Support prototype builds, testing, validation, and regulatory activities.
- Provide sustaining engineering support for released products, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and design changes.
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners on tooling, qualification, manufacturability, and production support.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts focused on quality, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, new product development, sustaining engineering, or a related product support role.
- Experience with 3D CAD and product data management tools.
- Experience with product testing, validation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with experience in any of the following are encouraged to apply:
- Experience with rugged outdoor, metering, sensor-based, or high-volume electromechanical products.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, casting, machining, stampings, or powdered metal.
- Experience with Creo (Pro/ENGINEER) and Windchill.
- Finite element analysis (FEA) experience.
- Familiarity with GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability.
- Experience with ANSI, AWWA, ASME, UL, or Intrinsic Safety requirements.
