POSITION OVERVIEW
The Warehouse Manager is accountable for the safe, accurate, efficient, and disciplined execution of the warehouse operation. This senior-level management role provides end-to-end ownership of shipping, receiving, inventory control, labor performance, employee accountability, safety, attendance, payroll, and daily operating results. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader who can set clear expectations, develop supervisors and hourly team members, use data to manage performance, and proactively escalate risks that could affect service, cost, inventory, safety, or customer commitments.
The role requires a leader who is comfortable operating with a high degree of ownership and autonomy while partnering effectively with Leadership, Operations, Quality, Finance, Peoples Team, IT, Transportation, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Warehouse Operations & Ownership
--Own daily warehouse execution across receiving, put-away, storage, replenishment, picking, staging, shipping, returns, and related material-flow activities.
--Set daily priorities based on inbound and outbound requirements, staffing, inventory availability, service commitments, and operational constraints.
--Maintain strong floor presence, routinely verify execution against plan, and remove barriers that affect safety, productivity, quality, or service.
--Ensure shift handoffs, daily operating communication, and escalation processes are structured, timely, and effective.
--Maintain warehouse organization, housekeeping, slotting discipline, dock control, equipment readiness, and overall facility operating standards.
--Shipping & Receiving
--Ensure inbound receipts are processed accurately and timely, including quantity verification, condition checks, documentation, system receipt, and exception handling.
--Ensure outbound orders are picked, staged, verified, loaded, documented, and shipped in accordance with customer, carrier, and internal requirements.
--Monitor dock activity, appointment flow, trailer utilization, loading/unloading productivity, detention risk, and shipment cutoffs.
--Investigate and resolve receiving discrepancies, shortages, overages, damages, mis-shipments, and other shipping exceptions.
--Inventory Ownership & Control
--Own warehouse inventory accuracy and integrity, including location control, transaction discipline, reconciliation, and inventory-adjustment governance.
--Establish and maintain a disciplined cycle count program; ensure counts are completed on schedule, variances are researched, root causes are identified, and corrective actions are implemented.
--Monitor inventory KPIs, aging, damaged or quarantined product, location accuracy, and recurring variance trends.
--Partner with Leadership, Quality, Finance, and Operations to resolve inventory discrepancies and protect material availability.
--People Leadership, Staffing & Accountability
--Lead, coach, and develop supervisors, leads, and hourly team members; establish clear expectations and reinforce standards consistently.
--Hold team members accountable for safety, attendance, quality, productivity, conduct, and adherence to established processes and SOPs.
--Manage staffing plans, shift coverage, work assignments, cross-training, overtime, and labor allocation based on workload and business priorities.
--Monitor employee attendance, timekeeping, schedule adherence, missed punches, absences, and overtime; address issues promptly and consistently in partnership with Peoples Team.
--Review, approve, and submit payroll/time records for direct reports accurately and on time.
--Conduct performance discussions, coaching, corrective action, and formal performance reviews; maintain appropriate documentation and escalation.
--Build bench strength through training, cross-training, succession planning, and development of high-potential team members.
--Safety, Compliance & SOP Adherence
--Own day-to-day warehouse safety execution and ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, company policies, site procedures, and applicable regulatory standards.
--Lead safety meetings, enforce PPE and powered industrial truck requirements, verify inspections, and address unsafe conditions or behaviors immediately.
--Ensure incidents, injuries, near misses, damages, and other safety events are reported, investigated, documented, and followed by appropriate corrective action.
--Ensure SOPs and standard work are consistently followed; audit compliance, coach deviations, and recommend process updates when existing procedures are ineffective or outdated.
--Performance Management, KPIs & Continuous Improvement
--Own and monitor warehouse KPIs such as safety, attendance, inventory accuracy, receiving productivity, dock-to-stock, order accuracy, on-time shipping, labor utilization, overtime, and cost performance.
--Understand KPI definitions, targets, and operational drivers; identify variances and adjust staffing, priorities, workflows, or processes as needed to recover performance.
--Use structured root cause analysis to address recurring service, inventory, quality, productivity, and safety issues; implement corrective and preventive actions and verify effectiveness.
--Identify and lead continuous-improvement opportunities that improve flow, productivity, accuracy, utilization, service, and cost.
--WMS, Systems & Reporting
--Demonstrate strong working knowledge of warehouse management systems and ensure accurate, timely system transactions throughout the operation.
--Use WMS, ERP, reporting tools, and operational data to monitor workload, inventory, labor productivity, exceptions, and service performance.
--Partner with Leadership/IT/Systems on WMS issues, enhancements, testing, process changes, and system implementations as required.
--Prepare and communicate concise operational updates, KPI results, risks, corrective actions, and recovery plans to senior leadership.
--Escalation, Cross-Functional Partnership & Business Management
--Exercise sound judgment regarding which issues can be resolved within the warehouse and which require timely escalation to senior leadership or functional partners.
--Proactively escalate material risks involving safety, service, inventory, staffing, compliance, systems, stakeholder commitments, or cost before they become larger business issues.
--Partner cross-functionally with Procurement, Transportation, Quality, Finance, IT, and People Team to resolve operational issues and support business priorities.
--Monitor labor cost, overtime, equipment utilization, damages, rework, supplies, and other controllable operating expenses; manage the operation with strong cost awareness.
--Support budgeting, staffing forecasts, capacity planning, peak planning, capital/equipment needs, and warehouse expansion or process-change initiatives as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
--7+ years of progressive warehouse, supply chain, distribution, logistics, or fulfillment experience, including significant leadership responsibility.
--3+ years of direct warehouse management experience with responsibility for people, inventory, shipping/receiving, safety, and operating performance.
--Demonstrated experience leading medium-to-large hourly teams and developing leads or supervisors.
--Strong working knowledge of WMS functionality, inventory control, cycle counting, warehouse transactions, and operational reporting.
--Demonstrated ability to manage through KPIs, identify performance gaps, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective action.
--Experience managing attendance, timekeeping, payroll approvals, coaching, performance documentation, and employee accountability.
--Working knowledge of warehouse safety requirements, material-handling equipment, and safe operating practices.
--Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively from the warehouse floor through senior leadership.
--Demonstrated judgment, urgency, follow-through, and ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
--Bilingual: Fluency in Japanese and English. Must be capable of speaking, reading, and writing in both languages.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
--Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, Business, or a related field; equivalent operational leadership experience may be considered.
--Experience supporting or leading WMS implementations, upgrades, process redesign, or warehouse start-up/expansion activity.
--Experience with Lean, continuous improvement, standard work, or structured problem-solving methodologies.
--Experience in multi-shift, high-volume, multi-SKU, regulated, or customer-critical warehouse environments.
LEADERSHIP PROFILE
The ideal candidate is a highly accountable warehouse leader who combines strong operational discipline with effective people leadership. They should be comfortable making decisions, setting priorities, addressing performance directly, developing the team, and escalating risk appropriately. This individual should be capable of independently owning a significant warehouse operation while continuing to build the broader strategic, financial, and organizational capabilities expected at the next level of leadership.
