The Opportunity:
Reporting to Director, Human Resources, Japan, the Manager, Talent Acquisition, Japan designs and leads the recruitment strategy and end-to-end delivery in Japan across functions. The Manager, TA translates agreed business priorities and regional TA direction into local hiring plans, allocates appropriate recruiting resources, ensures a positive candidate experience, and guides execution within approved budgets.
Responsibilities:

Provide coaching and develop the Japan TA team as a high peformaning and high-effective team.

Translate the approved Japan workforce hiring plan into recruiting priorities, including strategy, proper resources allocation to meet business needs, monitor external market trends, and proactively propose adjustments when necessary.

Partner with Japan hiring managers to clarify role requirements, align on selection criteria and timelines, and resolve recruiting obstacles.

Provide practical advice on local talent availability and candidate expectations.

Manage end-to-end recruitment for assigned priority roles, from intake and sourcing through assessment, offer coordination, and handover to onboarding.

Maintain a positive candidate experience and accurate records in the applicant tracking system.

Guide TABPs and hiring teams on structured interviews, evidence-based candidate assessment, and offer discussions.

Partner with Total Rewards and HRBP to maintain internal equity and secure required approvals.

Manage external recruitment agencies and other sourcing partners.

Review delivery and spending, optimize sourcing channels, build market awareness, and escalate additional resource or budget requests through the established approval process.

Collaborate with HR Business Partners, People Operations, and Total Rewards to coordinate hiring and onboarding.

Partner with TA operations to create recruiting metrics and dashboards.

Use hiring funnel data, time to fill, offer acceptance, sourcing effectiveness, and candidate feedback to identify issues and improve delivery.

Maintain reliable Japan recruiting reports and recommend actions to TA and HR leadership.

Implement global recruiting processes and tools in Japan with robust change management plan, adapting execution to regional/local business needs.

Communicate changes to the team, assign responsibilities, and monitor adoption.

Escalate policy exceptions and unresolved risks, and provide effective solutions.

Ensure recruiting activities follow applicable requirements in Japan and company policies, working with HR and Legal for guidance. Protect candidate information, support fair and inclusive selection, and model integrity and commitment to the company’s patient-focused mission.
Required Skills, Experience and Education:
-
7+ years of progressive talent acquisition experience, including recruitment in Japan within biotechnology, biopharma, or pharmaceutical organizations, and at least 2 years of direct people-management experience in recruiting.

Demonstrated experience delivering hiring for Commercial, Medical Affairs, and corporate functions in Japan, with an understanding of local talent pools, sourcing channels, and pharmaceutical industry recruiting practices.

Ability to manage team performance, coach recruiters, plan recruiting capacity, and deliver agreed hiring objectives within established processes and resources.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including using recruiting data to diagnose delivery issues, prioritize actions, and improve processes and candidate experience.

Effective stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build consensus across local business, HR, and global TA teams and guide the team through changing priorities.

Professional Japanese proficiency to conduct interviews and advise local stakeholders, and business English proficiency to collaborate with global colleagues and communicate recruiting plans and results.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.
Preferred Skills:
-
Experience recruiting in oncology or rare diseases, or supporting hiring during business expansion in Japan.

Experience with Greenhouse, Workday, or comparable recruiting and HR systems.

Experience partnering closely with HR functions outside TA, or implementing local employer branding and sourcing initiatives within global frameworks.
