Job Description

The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records, ensuring material availability, supporting inventory transactions, and driving continuous improvement throughout inventory management processes. This role serves as the primary subject matter expert for inventory activities while working closely with Manufacturing, Production Planning, Quality and Finance to ensure inventory accuracy and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate possesses SAP inventory management experience, a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, excellent problem-solving skills, a willingness to teach and willingness to learn.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory Management

• Maintain accurate inventory records across manufacturing warehouses, production locations, and storage areas.
• Monitor inventory levels and identify potential shortages, excess inventory, and obsolete materials.
• Conduct cycle counts on a regular basis and actively supports physical inventory activities.
• Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, variances, and transaction errors.
• Analyze inventory movements and recommend corrective and preventative actions to improve accuracy.
• Support inventory reconciliation activities between physical inventory and ERP system records.

SAP Inventory Control

• Execute and monitor SAP inventory transactions, including:
  • Goods Receipts (GR)
  • Goods Issues (GI)
  • Transfer Postings
  • Stock Transfers
  • Inventory Adjustments
  • Cycle Count Processing
  • Physical Inventory Documentation
• Ensure SAP master data accuracy related to:
  • Material Masters
  • Storage Locations
  • Inventory Parameters
  • Units of Measure
  • Batch Number Controls
• Troubleshoot inventory-related SAP transaction issues and collaborate with IT or SAP support teams, as needed.
• Work in developing and maintaining SAP reports, queries, and inventory performance metrics.

Inventory Analysis & Reporting

• Generate and distribute inventory status reports and KPI dashboards.
• Monitor key metrics including:
  • Inventory Accuracy
  • Cycle Count Compliance
  • Stock Availability
  • Excess & Obsolete Inventory
• Identify trends and implement actions to improve inventory performance.
• Support month-end and year-end inventory closing activities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Production Planning to ensure material availability.
• Work with Procurement and Suppliers to resolve receipt and inventory discrepancies.
• Collaborate with Warehouse Operations to improve inventory control processes throughout Manufacturing.
• Support Finance during inventory audits and reconciliation activities.
• Participate in continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.

Compliance & Process Improvement

• Ensure adherence to company inventory policies and procedures.
• Support internal and external audits.
• Maintain documentation related to inventory control activities.
• Identify opportunities to improve inventory processes using SAP functionality and best practices.

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in manufacturing, warehousing, or supply chain environment
• High School Diploma OR GED
• Working knowledgeable in completing production and inventory transactions
• Microsoft Outlook
• Experience in supporting cycle counts and physical inventories.
• Analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to complete inventory transactions in a timely and accurate manner.
• Demonstrated punctuality, and strong attendance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SAP S/4HANA, or JD Edwards
• Experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of SAP modules including:
  • MM (Materials Management)
  • EWM (Extended Warehouse Management)
  • PP (Production Planning)
• APICS/ASCM certifications (CPIM, CSCP) a plus.
• Experience with barcode scanning and warehouse automation systems.
• Lean Manufacturing
• Understanding of inventory accounting principles and transaction controls.
