Internship conversion position for the Network Systems Department within the Mission Payloads Division (MPD). This position will be full-time, 100% onsite at our office in El Segundo

The Network Systems Department is responsible for supporting activities related to systems acquisition; from requirement development all the way to validation and verification. The chosen candidate will support our space network modeling and simulation/emulation tool development as well as our post-processing suite of tools. Our academic-like inspiring atmosphere encourages collaboration with and continued learning from our engineers who are leaders in their fields of expertise. We're also ready to learn from you. Members of the department will lead and perform trade studies, analyses, and simulations of space network architectures. Moreover, your role will provide critical insight and feedback to government customers to optimize the overall communications performance of terrestrial, satellite, launch vehicle, and ground-based systems. Additionally, your deliveries will help inform acquisition decisions to enhance national security.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Participate in multi-disciplinary engineering teams in development and analysis of future network architectures and requirements

• Analyze and simulate complex network architectures and protocols

• Engage in systems architecture definition, development, analysis, modeling & simulation, and prototype development/validation.

• Innovate through specialized technical studies and internal research and development (R&D) projects to develop the next generation of Space and Ground network concepts, architectures, and technologies

• Participate in development of data analysis and post-processing tools

• Support development and sustainment of core network simulation, emulation, and modeling capabilities.

What You Need to be Successful   

Minimum Requirements  

• Masters degree from an accredited college/university program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related program (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months)

• Prior internship at The Aerospace Corporation.

• 0-1 year of industry work experience  

• Applied research in analytical, simulation, and/or experimental skills.

• Experience in software development in Python or C/C++.

• Ability to present results effectively in briefings and technical reports.

• Willing to travel [occasionally to work location or customer site/domestically/internationally] approx. 10%

• This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

• Transcripts required.  

How You Can Stand Out 

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:  

• GPA 3.5 or higher  

• Active security clearance

• Familiarity with network testbed development and/or experience with network emulation/simulation

• Expert level knowledge in Python and C++. Familiarity with standard software development best practices

• Knowledge of inter-satellite cross-links and laser optical communication technologies
