We are looking for an experienced IBM DB2 Database Administrator with strong expertise in managing enterprise DB2 database environments, particularly within Red Hat Linux environments. The role requires deep hands-on experience in database administration, performance optimisation, backup and recovery, high availability, troubleshooting, security, and production support.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the availability, reliability, performance, and security of critical DB2 database systems while supporting application and infrastructure teams across development, testing, and production environments.
Requirements
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer and maintain IBM DB2 databases across development, testing, staging, and production environments.
- Manage DB2 databases running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments.
- Perform DB2 installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, migration, and maintenance activities.
- Monitor database health, availability, performance, storage utilisation, and resource consumption.
- Perform database performance tuning and optimisation, including SQL analysis, indexing, configuration parameters, memory utilisation, and workload optimisation.
- Manage database backup, restore, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies to meet business continuity and recovery requirements.
- Support high-availability and disaster-recovery environments and participate in failover and recovery testing.
- Troubleshoot complex DB2 database issues, performance bottlenecks, connectivity problems, locking issues, and production incidents.
- Monitor and resolve database alerts, capacity issues, failed jobs, and operational exceptions.
- Work closely with application and development teams to troubleshoot SQL and database-related application issues.
- Support database refreshes, cloning, migrations, and environment provisioning.
- Manage database users, roles, privileges, authentication, and access controls in accordance with security requirements.
- Perform database health checks and proactively identify potential performance, capacity, and availability risks.
- Automate repetitive database administration and operational activities using scripting and appropriate tools.
- Maintain database documentation, operational procedures, configuration records, and recovery runbooks.
- Participate in production releases, change management, incident management, and root-cause analysis.
- Support database upgrades, migrations, technology refreshes, and infrastructure changes.
- Coordinate with infrastructure, Linux, network, security, application, and DevOps teams for database-related activities.
- Ensure database environments follow enterprise security, availability, performance, and operational standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of database administration processes, monitoring, automation, and reliability.
WHAT MAKES YOU A GREAT FIT
- 8+ years of experience in database administration with strong hands-on expertise in IBM DB2.
- Strong experience administering DB2 databases in Red Hat Linux / RHEL environments.
- Deep understanding of DB2 architecture, database configuration, utilities, administration, and troubleshooting.
- Strong experience with DB2 installation, upgrades, patching, migration, backup, restore, and recovery.
- Hands-on experience with DB2 performance tuning, SQL optimisation, indexing, locking, concurrency, and database configuration.
- Strong understanding of database monitoring, capacity planning, availability, and production support.
- Experience designing and supporting high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions.
- Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills, particularly within RHEL environments.
- Experience with shell scripting or automation for database administration and operational tasks.
- Strong knowledge of database security, user management, roles, privileges, and access controls.
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise or business-critical database environments.
- Strong incident management, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills.
- Experience working with application, infrastructure, DevOps, security, and network teams.
- Strong understanding of change management, release management, production support, and IT service-management practices.
