Te Taumata is a leadership organisation established by and for Ngāti Whakaue, working across education, te reo Māori, housing development and social wellbeing.

Today, our work reaches hundreds of whānau, rangatahi, tamariki, and kōhungahunga through high-quality, whānau-centred programmes and services.

The role

There are few things better than watching someone pick up the keys and moving into a home of their own. Our Housing & Wellbeing team makes that happen, week after week, and they do it alongside manaha on some of the hardest days of their lives, through homelessness, mental health, addiction and trauma, the kind of complexity that doesn't always resolve neatly.

It's demanding mahi. It's also the mahi where you see people's lives actually change, and you get to be part of it.

The team is very good at what they do. What they need now is a strong leader.

Someone who can set the direction and hold the standard. Someone who knows how to grow people, make the hard calls, and build a service that whānau can rely on. Someone who wants their leadership to count for something in their own community.

This is a leadership role, first and foremost. You'll take both strategic and operational responsibility for a large, experienced team.

Strategically, you'll set direction for the service, shape workforce planning, and make sure our funded commitments translate into real outcomes for our community. Operationally, you'll lead, coach and grow the performance of your people, and oversee referral intake, caseload allocation and service coordination.

You don't need to be the clinical expert in the room. Your team holds deep practice knowledge. Your job is to lead them well, build capability, hold standards, and create the conditions for good practice to happen.

Relationships are central to the mahi. You'll build strong connections internally as well as externally with MSD, Te Whatu Ora, Kāinga Ora, and health and community partners, championing tikanga, whanaungatanga and manaakitanga in everything the team does.

What you'll bring

• Proven leadership of a sizeable team, with genuine strength across strategy, leadership and day to day operations
• A track record of building high-performing, values-driven teams through coaching, performance management, building capability and improving culture
• Sound judgement and steadiness in a complex, high-demand environment
• Strong understanding of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga and kaupapa Māori practice
• Experience managing funded service delivery, reporting and contract obligations would be an advantage
