Te Taumata o Ngāti Whakaue Iho Ake | Rotorua | Full time, Fixed Term to 30 June 2028

About us

Guided by a dedicated team of Poumahi, we embody and uphold the values of manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, kaitiakitanga, pono me te tika, and mana motuhake in all that we do.

Te Taumata is a leadership organisation established by and for Ngāti Whakaue, working across education, te reo Māori, housing development and social wellbeing.

Today, our work reaches hundreds of whānau, rangatahi, tamariki, and kōhungahunga through high-quality, whānau-centred programmes and services.

The role

Our Housing & Wellbeing Services support hundreds of whānau, rangatahi, tamariki and kōhungahunga each year, grounded in kaupapa Māori and the belief that stable housing, connection and wellbeing are inseparable.

We're looking for an experienced leader to take strategic and operational responsibility for a large team that is the heart and hub of Te Taumata, setting direction and providing visible, values-driven leadership across a team working at the intersection of homelessness, mental health, addiction, trauma and whānau complexity.

Day to day, you'll lead, coach and grow the performance of your team, drive workforce planning, and oversee referral intake, caseload allocation and service coordination. Relationships are just as central to the mahi: you'll build strong connections with MSD, Te Whatu Ora, Kāinga Ora, health and community partners, championing tikanga, whanaungatanga and manaakitanga in everything the team does.

What you'll bring

  • Proven leadership ideally in a frontline social services, housing, health or kaupapa Māori team
  • A relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent senior practice leadership experience
  • Strong understanding of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga and kaupapa Māori practice
  • Experience managing funded service delivery, reporting and contract obligations
  • Current professional registration relevant to social work, counselling, mental health, addiction or psychology would be an advantage
  • A current full NZ Driver Licence
  • Connection to Ngāti Whakaue would be a strength

Why join now

If you're ready to lead with mana, and want your leadership to mean something for your own community, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply now with your CV and a cover letter outlining your experience and connection to this mahi.
