At Delta Faucet, we are committed to transforming everyday experiences with water through innovative products and exceptional service. As a leader in the plumbing industry, we take pride in our dedication to quality, sustainability, and customer satisfaction. We believe that diverse perspectives strengthen our mission to create solutions that inspire and elevate the lives of all our customers. We welcome individuals from all backgrounds to join us on this journey toward inclusivity and excellence.

Your Role at Delta Faucet

Delta Faucet Company has an opportunity for a Hardware Engineering Co-op to join our Connected Water Team to help deliver the next generation of product features and technology to our customers. In this role, you will support the development of new digital products through hands-on work with embedded systems and real product hardware.

You will spend most of your days in the lab doing hands-on and varied tasks: soldering and reworking assemblies, programming and bringing up circuit boards, running electrical and functional tests, laying out PCBs, and keeping our engineering lab and its equipment running as smoothly as possible.

You will report to the engineering manager and sit with the project teams, not apart from them. Within your first few weeks you will be assigned specific tasks, projects, and test processes to own — meaning you make the calls there, you document how it works, and you are the person others ask about it. When you find a better way to do something, we want to hear it, and we will give you a straight answer either way.

Every part of the role is scoped so that the skills you leave with — test methodology, debugging discipline, documentation, lab ownership — are the ones that help you with the rest of your college work and prepare you for your future career.

Responsibilities:

Build and Rework

  • Solder, rework, and modify through-hole and surface-mount assemblies for prototypes, test fixtures, and engineering samples.
  • Assemble and wire test fixtures, harnesses, and benchtop setups from schematics and written instructions.
  • Program, flash, and bring up circuit boards; verify power rails, signal integrity, and basic functionality on new builds.

Test and Debug

  • Execute electrical, functional, and reliability tests on products and subassemblies, and record results accurately.
  • Investigate test failures: reproduce the issue, isolate it to a component or subsystem, and document what you found so an engineer can act on it.
  • Write and maintain basic test scripts and data-logging routines to automate repetitive measurements.
  • Operate and troubleshoot standard bench equipment — oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, function generators, data acquisition systems, environmental chambers.

Design Support

  • Produce PCB layouts for test fixtures, adapter boards, and design revisions under engineering guidance.
  • Review schematics and layouts for manufacturability and testability, and raise concerns before boards are ordered.
  • Suggest product and process improvements based on what you observe on the bench

Lab and Calibration Ownership

  • Organize and manage the engineering lab: equipment inventory, tool and fixture storage, consumable stock, workspace layout, and bench readiness.
  • Run the equipment calibration program — track calibration due dates, coordinate with vendors, maintain certificates, and keep instruments in a known-good state.
  • Establish and document standard operating procedures for test setups, lab safety, and equipment use so results are repeatable across people and across time.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation: test reports, procedures, wiring diagrams, bring-up notes, and change records.

Where this goes

We treat this co-op as the first step in a career here, not a temporary set of hands. The scope is designed to grow with you:

  • In your first term, you will learn our products, our lab, and our test methods, supporting engineers on defined tasks.
  • As you demonstrate judgment, you will take ownership of specific test areas, fixtures, and the calibration program — work that is yours, with your name on it.
  • Strong co-ops are invited back for additional terms with expanded responsibility, and we actively look to convert high performers into full-time engineering or test roles at graduation.

You will finish with a portfolio of real work: products you helped validate, fixtures you designed, procedures you wrote, and failures you tracked down. That is experience that transfers anywhere — and we would rather you build it here and stay.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience — coursework labs, senior design, competition teams (IEEE, Robotics, etc.), maker projects, or personal builds. Show us what you have made.
  • Excellent soldering experience, including small components and SMT rework
  • Foundational understanding of analog and digital circuits. Comfort reading schematics and interpreting datasheets and basic specifications.
  • Careful, methodical work habits. In test engineering, sloppy data is worse than no data, and this role is built on trustworthy measurements.
  • Clear written communication — you will write procedures and failure reports that other people rely on.
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers, embedded systems, and electronics lab equipment
  • Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn in a hands-on engineering environment
  • Interest in IoT, connected products, or consumer electronics is a plus

The target compensation for the role is $22.00 hour.
