Who We Are
Modulr is the payments automation platform that streamlines money movement with accuracy, control and reliability — built to scale. We process more than 200m transactions and over £180bn in payment value on an annualised basis, and we’re trusted by over 6,000 businesses from fast-growing SMEs to global enterprises.
We automate how money moves into and out of a business — payroll, supplier payments, spend management and payment collection — through a single platform, connected to the accounting and payroll systems finance teams already use and underpinned by principal memberships of Visa and Mastercard and direct access to central bank infrastructure.
As a regulated payments provider with over a decade of experience, we’re the platform finance teams trust to run mission-critical operations. Modulr is backed by PayPal, FIS, General Atlantic, Blenheim Chalcot, Frog Capital and Highland Europe, with over 400 employees across London, Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Mumbai and Pune.

Purpose of the Role

This role exists to support the detailed financial control and reporting execution across Modulr's group entities, working closely with and under the guidance of the Senior Financial Accountant. You will take hands-on responsibility for core areas of the month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations and controls execution, building towards greater ownership and independence as your experience grows.

This is not a purely administrative role. You will be expected to work accurately and on time, applying a controls mindset and recognising when to escalate issues that fall outside your experience or authority. You will develop into a trusted member of the Financial Control team, supporting senior colleagues so they can focus on oversight and more complex judgement calls.

You will also contribute to improving how the team works, using AI and automation tools to reduce manual effort and improve the consistency and quality of financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities
Group Management Accounts & Close

  • Support the month-end close process across group entities – preparing journals, accruals, prepayments and intercompany entries for review.
  • Assist in producing the monthly consolidated P&L, balance sheet and cash flow, including first-draft variance analysis and commentary.
  • Support maintenance of the group management accounts model (currently Excel-based), under the guidance of the Senior Financial  Accountant.
  • Assist with elements of the group consolidation process, including intercompany eliminations and multi-currency translation, with review from senior    team members.
  • Meet close timetable deadlines for your assigned areas, managing your own workload and flagging any risks to the Senior Financial Accountant  promptly.

Balance Sheet Reconciliations

  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations for your assigned entities – fully supported, clearly evidenced and ready for review every month.
  • Keep reconciliations up to date throughout the month, identifying and following up on reconciling items promptly.
  • Use AI tooling, where available, to support reconciliation processes such as matching and anomaly flagging.

Financial Controls & Risk

  • Apply an audit and controls mindset to your own work – ensuring it is accurate, clearly evidenced and ready for third-party review.
  • Follow the period close checklist for your assigned tasks, ensuring deadlines are met and any issues are raised promptly.
  • Identify and flag period close risks to the Senior Financial Accountant, providing relevant context.
  • Support assigned areas of Modulr's internal control framework, raising any gaps or weaknesses you notice.
  • Help ensure source data in NetSuite and upstream systems is accurate and well-documented.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by preparing well-evidenced responses to queries under guidance.

Cross-Border & Intercompany Accounting

  • Support the intercompany accounting process across group entities, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled.
  • Develop working knowledge of cross-border accounting considerations, including transfer pricing, foreign currency accounting and basic tax implications.
  • Help maintain intercompany balances and agreements, flagging inconsistencies to senior team members.

Group Regulatory Reporting

  • Support preparation and reconciliation of regulatory reports, ensuring accurate agreement back to the management accounts.
  • Apply relevant accounting standards under guidance, including UK GAAP and/or IFRS, NL GAAP and India GAAP, according to entity requirements.
  • Assist in responding to regulatory and audit queries accurately and promptly.

Systems, Automation & Process Improvement

  • Act as a confident user of NetSuite, taking ownership of day-to-day journal processing, reconciliation workflows and reporting outputs within your remit.
  • Support the identification and delivery of automation for manual reporting and reconciliation tasks, using AI tools, Power Automate, NetSuite workflows or equivalent.
  • Contribute ideas for process improvement, supporting a culture of continuous improvement across the Financial Reporting function.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with finance and non-finance stakeholders across the global business.
  • Build good working relationships with Payment Operations, FP&A, Data and Tech teams to help resolve issues promptly.

Person Specification
Essential

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, ICAI or equivalent), or newly qualified with relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience supporting month-end close activities – journals, balance sheet reconciliations and management accounts.
  • Some exposure to group consolidation, including intercompany eliminations and multi-currency translation, is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of UK GAAP (FRS 102) and/or IFRS; exposure to NL GAAP and India GAAP is a plus.
  • Strong Excel skills, with the ability to work confidently within a multi-entity group management accounts model.
  • A genuine controls mindset – understanding of what audit-ready means as a consistent monthly standard.
  • Experience or interest in working within a multi-entity, multi-currency, cross-border environment.
  • Familiarity with NetSuite or an equivalent ERP system.
  • Ability to manage your own workload and priorities at pace, aligned to UK business hours and timetables.
  • Clear, professional communication with both finance and non-finance stakeholders across time zones.

Desirable

  • Interest or experience in using AI tools in a finance context – for reconciliation support, process automation, drafting or analysis.
  • Exposure to Power Automate, NetSuite workflows or similar automation tooling.
  • Experience in fintech, payments or regulated financial services.
  • Experience working remotely as part of a UK-based finance team.
