Job Description:

Leads the Engineering Department and is responsible for the strategic direction, technical leadership, and execution of engineering activities supporting the Sacramento manufacturing facility. Oversee the design, project management, documentation, installation, commissioning, and lifecycle management of manufacturing equipment, infrastructure, and processes across multiple engineering disciplines. Develops engineering strategies that support business growth, operational excellence, reliability, safety, quality, sustainability, and long-term site capability.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Develops and executes the site's engineering strategy, capital plan, and continuous improvement roadmap. Establishes a three- to five-year engineering project portfolio aligned with business objectives and operational priorities. Directs engineering resources, contractors, consultants, and third-party vendors to successfully complete engineering design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
• Provides technical leadership across all engineering disciplines supporting manufacturing operations. Ensuring engineering solutions improves safety, reliability, quality, productivity, automation, maintainability, and sustainability while supporting operational excellence.
• Ensures engineering activities comply with Safety, Environmental, Regulatory, and Quality Management System requirements. Oversees Management of Change (MOC), Corrective Action Requests (CARs), engineering risk assessments, internal audits, and AS9100 engineering requirements.
• Develops, implements, and maintains engineering standards, procedures, and work instructions governing engineering project management, document control, operational technology (OT), engineering calculations, inspections, testing, commissioning, and equipment lifecycle management.
• Provides leadership, coaching, performance management, and technical development for Engineering Department personnel. Supports Individual Development Plans (IDPs), succession planning, cross-disciplinary technical knowledge, and professional growth while ensuring completion of required corporate and regulatory training.
• Develops and maintains strong working relationships with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Supply Chain, Mitsubishi Chemical Group Technology and R&D organizations, equipment manufacturers, engineering consultants, contractors, and key customers to support business objectives and technology advancement.
• Maintains engineering ownership of major manufacturing equipment documentation, equipment standards, engineering drawings, technical specifications, and site engineering records. Supports long-term equipment reliability, modernization, and lifecycle planning.
• Partners with Operations and other departments to ensure engineering resources effectively support manufacturing performance, operational goals, and continuous improvement initiatives while fostering a collaborative, professional, and safe work environment.
• Exhibits professionalism, integrity, and exemplary conduct when interacting with employees, contractors, suppliers, customers, and visitors. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned

​SPECIAL FEATURES:

• Participates in plant leadership support during off-hours as required. Occasional overtime, weekend support, shift support, and travel to other Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber facilities may be required.

KNOWLEDGE/ EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or another related engineering discipline required. Minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible engineering experience within an industrial manufacturing or chemical processing environment, including demonstrated leadership or project management experience.
• Advanced expertise in one engineering discipline with working knowledge across multiple disciplines, including:
• Electrical Controls, Instrumentation, Motor Control, and Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
• Mechanical Power Transmission, Rotating Equipment, Heating and Cooling Systems
• Process Piping, Pumps, Fluid Systems, and Chemical Process Engineering
• Strong understanding of engineering economics, capital planning, budgeting, project management, data analysis, and statistical methods. Demonstrated ability to develop and communicate Return on Investment (ROI), Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and cost-benefit analyses supporting capital and operational improvements.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations, California Safety and Environmental regulations, industrial codes and standards, and applicable labor regulations preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and engineering software including AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor. Experience with ERP systems, document control systems, and Operational Technology (OT) environments preferred.
• Ability to safely access manufacturing equipment including aerial lifts, elevated work platforms, and industrial process equipment after appropriate training.
• Ability to lift, push, pull, carry, climb, kneel, crawl, and access industrial equipment in support of engineering activities.
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and technical communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate engineering concepts, project status, business metrics, and executive-level recommendations.

The salary range for this position $165,000-$175,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
