The Manager of Electrical Technical Services builds and grows Strata’s electrical service and field support capabilities, including MTECK dragline commissioning, inspections, maintenance, consulting, training, and lifecycle support. This is a working technical manager role that combines direct field execution, technical leadership, customer support, training, and business development.

Working closely with the Strata Sales Manager and broader Strata team, the Manager will personally perform and lead electrical commissioning, startup, inspections, testing, diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance support, upgrades, training, consulting, and lifecycle support. Significant time will be spent in the field working directly on customer equipment, supporting mine operations, solving complex electrical issues, and working alongside customer and service personnel.

Job Description:
 

Essential Duties: 

  • Serve as Strata's primary hands-on technical resource for dragline electrical systems and related mining equipment, specifically including MTECK draglines.
  • Lead and develop Strata's Electrical Dragline Field Services capabilities while actively performing field-service work.
  • Personally perform and lead electrical commissioning, startup, inspections, testing, diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance support, upgrades, shutdown support, component replacement, and operational assessments.
  • Work directly with customer maintenance and operations personnel to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve electrical-system and equipment-reliability issues.
  • Provide advanced technical support for AC and DC systems, power distribution, controls, protection systems, PLCs, AC motors, DC motors and generators, carbon brush systems, and related components.
  • Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance strategies and programs.
  • Analyze operating conditions, equipment performance, test results, and field observations to identify reliability and performance improvements.
  • Perform field inspections and prepare clear findings, corrective actions, technical scopes of work, service reports, and long-term recommendations.
  • Develop technical procedures, inspection protocols, training materials, job plans, and service documentation.
  • Conduct customer visits and build long-term relationships through technical expertise, responsiveness, and direct field support.
  • Support customer meetings, site visits, quotations, proposals, technical evaluations, and complex sales opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities for replacement parts, inspections, field service, commissioning, maintenance agreements, reliability programs, rebuilds, upgrades, consulting, and technical training.
  • Work closely with the Strata Sales Manager and North American Mining New Business team to identify, execute, and support sales of MTECK draglines, mining equipment, services, and parts.
  • Represent Strata professionally at customer meetings, mine sites, trade shows, conferences, and industry events.
  • Requires approximately 50-70% travel to customer sites, active mines, maintenance facilities, training locations, trade shows, and industry events.
  • Must operate a vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Five or more years of experience in mining equipment, heavy industrial equipment, field service, maintenance, technical support, or a related area preferred.
  • Working knowledge of dragline electrical systems, power distribution, controls, protection systems, AC motors, DC motors and generators, carbon brush systems, electrical testing, and associated replacement parts.
  • Strong technical problem-solving, presentation, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to evaluate technical requirements and develop clear, practical recommendations.
  • Ability to prepare scopes of work, service reports, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with customers, suppliers, engineering resources, sales, and the Strata team.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism, accountability, integrity, and collaboration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with JDE or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems preferred.

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Degree or technical education in electrical engineering, electrical technology, industrial electricity, mining, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Direct experience with dragline electrical systems, PLC, DC motors and generators, controls, protection systems, carbon brush systems, electrical testing, and associated replacement parts.
  • Experience with electrical equipment commissioning, startup, testing, troubleshooting, and operational support.
  • Experience leading electrical field service, inspections, repairs, upgrades, or maintenance activities.
  • Experience developing preventive or predictive maintenance programs.
  • Customer-facing technical consulting or technical sales experience.

ANALYSIS OF PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION

  • Intermittently: Lift, carry, and pull up to 50 lbs. (tools, technical equipment, product samples, documents, and related materials).
  • Occasionally (0–1/3 of workday): Push/pull materials; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach during equipment inspections and site visits; handle tools, computers, and technical documentation; stand, walk, and sit during customer meetings, travel, inspections, and administrative work.
  • Frequently (1/3–2/3 of workday): Climb ladders, stairs, catwalks, draglines, and elevated work areas; maintain balance on uneven terrain; perform equipment observations and inspections requiring depth perception, visual acuity, and color recognition.
  • Constantly (2/3–3/3 of workday): Speak, hear, and see while conducting customer meetings, technical discussions, training, inspections, equipment observations, reporting, and safety-related activities.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in office, warehouse, industrial, and mining environments with frequent travel. Exposure to dust, noise, vibration, moving equipment, temperature extremes, and outdoor conditions is common. Ability to wear required PPE and safely access customer facilities and heavy equipment is required.
