What you'll be doing

As a Consultant, Data Governance Adherence, you'll join the Chief Data Office team and contribute to the ongoing execution of CIBC's data governance practices across our business and functional teams. You'll support data governance adherence activities with a primary focus on data risk assessment, deficiency calibration, and control execution. This includes reviewing enterprise issues against the data risk taxonomy, gathering and assessing control evidence from business partners, and working with stakeholders to support consistent, well-informed outcomes. You'll collaborate with partners across the business, Risk, and Internal Audit to clarify requirements, align classifications, and support strong governance practices. You'll also have the opportunity to contribute across a range of governance activities as team priorities evolve, building your knowledge and judgment over time.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.

How you'll succeed

  • Data Governance Adherence - Support Data Governance Adherence activities by assessing data risks, reviewing issues against the established data risk taxonomy, and contributing to consistent application of governance requirements across the enterprise.
  • Deficiency calibration - Collaborate with business, Risk, and Internal Audit partners to review enterprise issues, support calibration discussions, and align deficiency classifications using sound judgment and established guidance.
  • Control execution support - Collect evidence from business partners and assess it against established templates, requirements, and control expectations to support control execution activities.
  • Stakeholder collaboration - Build strong working relationships across the Chief Data Office and with business partners to support productive discussions, resolve questions, and manage governance-related activities with increasing independence after onboarding.
  • Adaptability - Contribute across governance activities as needed and adapt to changing team priorities, while remaining focused on quality, consistency, and timely delivery.

Who you are

  • You have 2+ years of experience in data governance, data management, risk, data risk, artificial intelligence governance, data science, or a related field with transferable knowledge that supports governance and risk-based work. You can demonstrate experience in Microsoft Excel, including lookups and basic calculations. It's an asset if you have experience with Power BI, Power Automate, or other automation tools.
  • You give meaning to data. You enjoy investigating issues, assessing information carefully, and applying sound judgment to support clear, practical outcomes.
  • You embrace and advocate for change. You're comfortable rotating across governance activities, learning new subject matter, and adapting as team priorities evolve.
  • You know that details matter. You approach your work with care and consistency when reviewing evidence, applying requirements, and supporting governance activities. You work well with business partners and control partners, and you know how to build strong relationships that support thoughtful discussion and alignment.
  • You love to learn. You're curious about the wide variety of data governance and data management concepts including data quality, metadata, and data lineage, and you're motivated to continue building your knowledge. DCAM certification is an asset, but not required.
  • You live your values. You bring high standards, genuine care to your relationships, and want to grow with an employer that shares your values and brings out your best.
