The Position
Genentech, Inc. seeks a Therapeutic Area Pipeline Medical Science Liaison at its South San Francisco, CA location.
Duties: Within global pharmaceutical company, serve as field medical partner responsible for providing clinical, scientific and other relevant information related to disease states and the appropriate utilization of Genentech medicines Immunology/Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Therapeutic Area pipeline and therapeutic area (TA)-related approved medicines, as appropriate. Responsible for managing Phase I-III pediatrics and adult clinical trials in the assigned geographic area. Support site identification, start-up, clinical trial recruitment, and study retention; Ensure end-to-end customer experience, building and leveraging relationships with investigators, site staff, and clinical operations partners to enable and expedite the successful delivery of clinical development programs within IBD. Engage with healthcare providers, clinical study staff, therapeutic area experts (TAEs), population health decision makers, and patient thought leaders within their region(s), to further patient outcomes aligned with the overarching objectives of Genentech. Identify Educational Gaps and Provide real-time insights and ground-level understanding of the IBD Disease Area across US Regions and countries to inform strategies. Partner with U.S. cross-functional colleagues and global teams, developing and managing projects that can improve the care of underserved populations. In collaboration with home office and regional partners, accountable for comprehensive activities focused on delivering a successful clinical development program including, but not limited to: clinical trial recruitment focused activities, competitive intelligence, Congress support, professional society engagement, and TA landscaping. Responsible for covering multiple pipeline medicines, as well as engaging in broad clinical and scientific discussions resulting in rich customer insights shared with key stakeholders across the organization. Point of Contact (PoC) for AI and Digital Strategies including leading internal initiatives and discussions regarding efficient, ethical, and proper use of multiple available artificial intelligence solutions, improvements in the use of digital tools supporting field activities, and leveraging field medical strategy.
Education and Experience Requirement: Requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Pharmaceutical or Clinical Sciences or related field and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in job offered, or Medical Manager/Leader/Partner, or related position in the pharmaceutical industry. Alternatively, employer will accept a Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in fields specified and 3 years of the specified experience.
Specials Skills Requirement: Two (2) years of experience must include:
- Pipeline development experience in Immunology; Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, and Crohn’s Disease
- Experience with immunomediated diseases, neurology, rare diseases, renal, and onco-hematology therapeutic areas
- Launch Readiness and Clinical-to-Commercial Transition
- End-to-end lifecycle management of IBD pipeline molecules, including Phase I to IV trial support and HEOR integration
- Solid understanding of the US Healthcare System, management, and care of IBD patients in the United States
- Proficiency in GCP (Good Clinical Practice) and ICH (International Conference on Harmonization of Technical Requirements for Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use)
- Relevant therapeutic area knowledge, comprehensive understanding of product and safety profiles, and familiarity with managed care, health economics, reimbursement, and legal and regulatory landscape in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry.
- In-depth knowledge of clinical development programs and clinical trial management
- Experience with the management of Pediatric Trials
Position requires 70% travel (fully reimbursed) to various unanticipated worksites in Florida, Georgia, and Puerto Rico to visit client sites.

The expected annual salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position of South San Francisco, California is $242,712 to $299,500 per year. Actual pay within the range will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
