The Investment Associate will join the Fixed Income Credit Research Team and cover Canadian Investment Grade Corporates as Winter co-op. The analyst is accountable for providing timely and thorough investment analyses in support of Canadian core, corporate, short, long and total return mandates. Functions must be performed in the context of the unique client-defined investment strategy and the work contributes to the strategy’s successful performance and the Company’s ability to raise assets. The analyses performed include a combination of fundamental credit, ESG and relative value analysis.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze specific companies, interpret market trends and examine specified market sector activity to provide information and analysis required in the investment decision-making process. The analyst is expected to covers several industry sectors.
• Meet with company management and sell-side analysts to determine the short- and long-term outlook of a company and provide verbal and written reviews of investment ideas for portfolio managers. Develop and cultivate relationships to broaden knowledge of assigned companies and industries.
• Complete fundamental analysis, including the analysis of financial statements and rating agency reports, augmented with ESG and relative value considerations to make buy, sell, hold recommendations across sectors and issuers.
• Build case and assemble data points to make specific security recommendations to portfolio managers.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Superior analytical skills to complete detailed fundamental and relative value analysis, with the ability to construct investment models to identify and track value added securities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to deliver reviews and recommendations
• Strong understanding of business and economics in order to research target companies and determine potentially profitable investment opportunities
• Strong sense of judgment and self-discipline in order to evaluate multiple opportunities and make appropriate investment decisions
• Highly motivated, organized team player with a strong work ethic and ability to work under pressure
• Must be detail-oriented, intellectually curious, reliable, collaborative, and adaptive to changing priorities

Salary range is expected to be between:

$44,850 CAD - $62,400 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. The annual salary will be pro-rated based on the length of the work-term.
