Web Content Specialist
Nexight Group is seeking an experienced Web Content Specialist to develop, manage, and continuously improve digital content for a federal transportation client. Working with subject matter experts, communications and editorial teams, designers, and government stakeholders, this role combines strong writing and editing, content management, user experience, accessibility, quality assurance, and digital publishing skills to ensure complex technical information is accurate, accessible, easy to find, and engaging for diverse audiences.
This position is contingent upon Nexight Group receiving an anticipated federal contract award. Employment under this position will begin only after contract award and authorization to proceed.

Applicants should have the necessary skills to perform the following job responsibilities:
- Develop, write, edit, update, and publish web and intranet content, translating complex technical and research information into clear, accurate, accessible, audience-centered digital communications.
- Manage content throughout its lifecycle, coordinating intake, development, technical and communications review, approval, publishing, updates, and archiving.
- Use content management systems to upload, maintain, format, and publish approved content, including text, images, alternative text, links, downloadable resources, and related digital assets.
- Coordinate with content owners, subject matter experts, communications and editorial staff, designers, and government stakeholders to gather information, manage reviews, resolve issues, and ensure timely publication.
- Conduct quality assurance of web content and data, verifying accuracy, readability, formatting, links, accessibility, branding, metadata, and consistency with applicable editorial and governance standards.
- Apply plain language, content organization, search optimization, and user centered design principles to improve content discoverability, usability, and engagement.
- Evaluate website content and information architecture to identify opportunities to eliminate redundancies, modernize content, improve navigation and findability, and strengthen the user experience.
- Use performance analytics, search behavior, content metrics, and stakeholder feedback to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and recommend content and user-experience enhancements.
- Support recurring content reviews and certification processes to help ensure digital information remains accurate, current, and compliant.
- Develop user guides, training materials, presentations, and other resources; document and improve content-management processes and procedures; and deliver training and support to staff on content-management and publishing processes.
- Support digital information resources and databases through content review, editing, organization, sorting, filtering, data quality control, and publishing, as applicable.
- Use graphic-editing tools as needed to prepare, crop, resize, recolor, and optimize images and visual assets for web use.
This is a hybrid position. Candidates should be within reasonable commuting distance of the Washington, DC, metropolitan area and available for meetings and other activities at client locations in McLean, VA, and Washington, DC, as required.
Summary of Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related discipline.
- 5–7 years of professional experience in web content management, including at least 3 years within the past 5 years.
- Demonstrated experience writing, editing, maintaining, and publishing web content using a content management system.
- Experience managing content through review, approval, publishing, maintenance, and archival workflows.
- Experience applying Section 508 accessibility requirements to web and digital content.
- Experience conducting content quality assurance, including review of accuracy, links, formatting, metadata, and digital assets.
- Experience applying plain-language, content-organization, search optimization, and user-experience principles to digital content.
- Experience using performance data, analytics, or user feedback to evaluate and improve web content.
- Experience creating training or guidance materials and delivering training or user support to content contributors, staff, or CMS users.
- Experience using graphic-editing tools to prepare and optimize images for web use.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other digital collaboration/content-development tools.
- Ability to successfully complete required federal personnel security/background investigation and obtain required facility and system access.

- Ability to build productive working relationships and communicate professionally with clients, subject matter experts, content owners, editors, designers, technical staff, and colleagues.
- Strong organizational and project-coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple content requests, reviews, updates, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Sound judgment and strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify content or usability issues, determine appropriate solutions, and recognize when questions require client or technical input.
- Curiosity, critical thinking, adaptability, and initiative, including the ability to quickly become conversant in unfamiliar technical topics, solve problems proactively, and identify opportunities to improve content, user experience, and client outcomes.
- Ability to take ownership of work independently while collaborating effectively across multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented consulting environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Drupal experience, preferably Drupal 10.
- Federal government web content, digital communications, or publishing experience.
- Transportation, highway/surface transportation, infrastructure, research, or related technical-sector experience.
- Experience working with large, complex websites or portfolios of web content.
- Experience with SharePoint or other enterprise content/collaboration platforms.
- Familiarity with graphic-editing applications and basic HTML/CSS.
- Advanced Section 508/web accessibility experience.
