Senior Project Manager
Nexight Group is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead a large, multidisciplinary team delivering research communications, publications, marketing, outreach, multimedia, and digital content services for a federal transportation client. This senior-level role requires an experienced leader who can manage a complex portfolio of concurrent projects, provide strategic and operational direction to staff, build trusted client relationships, and ensure high-quality work is delivered on schedule and within budget.
This position is contingent upon Nexight Group receiving an anticipated federal contract award. Employment under this position will begin only after contract award and authorization to proceed.

Applicants should have the necessary skills to perform the following job responsibilities:
- Provide overall leadership and management for a multidisciplinary communications team and a high-volume portfolio of concurrent projects spanning publications, marketing and outreach, multimedia, web content, and related communications services.
- Lead project planning, resource allocation, staff assignments, schedules, budgets, milestones, performance measures, and priorities to ensure high-quality deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
- Serve as a primary client-facing leader, coordinating directly with government contracting and program personnel, task managers, researchers, and other stakeholders to understand needs, establish priorities, resolve issues, and maintain alignment with contract objectives.
- Provide end-to-end oversight of project intake, planning, execution, review, approval, delivery, and closeout, maintaining visibility across active and upcoming work.
- Lead, coach, and coordinate multidisciplinary staff, ensuring clear roles, accountability, effective collaboration, appropriate workload distribution, and continuity of service.
- Maintain project- and portfolio-level tracking systems that provide staff and clients with clear visibility into assignments, schedules, milestones, dependencies, action items, risks, and project status.
- Proactively identify and manage schedule, budget, quality, staffing, and performance risks, developing mitigation and contingency strategies before issues affect client outcomes.
- Implement consistent quality management processes, including project-specific review approaches, quality checks, performance measures, and continuous improvement practices.
- Analyze workload, priorities, and resource needs to anticipate capacity constraints and deploy appropriate staff or backup coverage as needs change.
- Oversee records, project documentation, communications product archives, and knowledge management practices to support continuity of operations and comply with applicable contract and records management requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, workflows, team performance, and client service, translating lessons learned into practical improvements across the contract.
This is a hybrid position. Candidates should be within reasonable commuting distance of the Washington, DC, metropolitan area and available for meetings and other activities at client locations in McLean, VA, and Washington, DC, as required.
Summary of Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Master's degree, or Bachelor's degree with relevant experience, in Business, Marketing/Communications, or a related technical discipline.
- 10+ years of relevant professional experience, including leadership of multidisciplinary teams and management of complex projects or portfolios.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex contracts or programs involving marketing, communications, publications, or related professional services.
- Experience supervising the development and publication of technical information from concept through final delivery across multiple formats, such as technical reports, presentations, multimedia, digital content, social media, and communications collateral.
- Experience managing project schedules, budgets and financial performance, staffing/resources, quality, risks, and performance.
- Experience working directly with clients and senior stakeholders in complex professional environments.
- Experience overseeing stakeholder engagement, outreach, or other audience-facing communications activities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and experience using project-management or task-tracking platforms.
- Ability to successfully complete required federal personnel security/background investigation and obtain required facility and system access.

- Ability to build trusted client relationships and communicate professionally with clients, colleagues, subject matter experts, partners, and senior leaders.
- Sound judgment and strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify risks early, assess options and tradeoffs, develop practical solutions, make decisions, and escalate issues appropriately.
- Ability to translate broad client objectives into clear assignments, priorities, schedules, and expectations for project teams.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on project leadership, shifting between portfolio-level priorities and detailed execution needs as circumstances require.
- Curiosity, critical thinking, adaptability, and initiative, including the ability to quickly become conversant in unfamiliar technical topics, solve problems proactively, and identify opportunities to improve processes, team performance, and client outcomes.
- Ability to take ownership of work independently while collaborating effectively across multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented consulting environment where priorities and workloads may change quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Federal government contracting or consulting experience, particularly managing federal communications or professional services programs.
- Transportation, infrastructure, engineering, research, or other technical sector experience.
- Experience managing high-volume communications or publication portfolios with multiple concurrent deliverables.
- Records management and federal publishing experience.
- PMP or comparable project/program management certification.
