Job Description:
Join Bank of America’s Asia Pacific legal team supporting the investment banking and capital markets businesses in Japan.  The role offers broad exposure to M&A, equity and debt capital markets transactions, close partnership with senior bankers and internal stakeholders and the opportunity to work on complex, high-profile domestic and cross-border matters.  Join a collaborative and experienced Japan based legal team working closely with colleagues regionally and globally.  This is a unique opportunity to be part of one of the world’s leading investment banking and capital markets platforms globally, supporting clients around the world and across all major industries on transactions ranging from strategic advice to mergers & acquisitions to equity and debt offerings. 

Responsibilities:

Alongside other members of the legal team in Japan and with the wider team in Asia and globally, you will

• assist bankers by reviewing/negotiating transaction documents;
• engage, instruct and supervise external counsels;
• assist in structuring and executing M&A, corporate and capital markets transactions;
• contribute to internal guidelines, policies, procedures and standardized documentation;
• identify and advise on regulatory developments, new products or trends in the market; and
• interact with different internal functions and develop a relationship with internal stakeholders as a trusted partner, providing practical legal advice.

Skills:

• Qualified lawyer under Japanese law preferred and/or the laws of a common law jurisdiction who is experienced with market practices in Japan.
• At least eight years post qualifications experience with a leading international or domestic law firm or financial services company working on international M&A, corporate and/or capital markets transactions.
• Strong commercial judgement and a practical, solutions-oriented approach coupled with a desire to continually grow and adapt.
• Be familiar with working with AI tools.
• Japanese and English spoken and written language skills.
• Based in Tokyo, Japan.
