The role combines technical industry expertise with business and service development, working closely with clients, manufacturers, engineering firms, and CSA Group teams to identify market opportunities, develop new service offerings, and support complex field evaluation projects. Target applications include major capital projects, data centers, manufacturing facilities, power generation, and energy infrastructure, with opportunities to expand into emerging technologies such as hydrogen and alternative fuels.

Responsibilities

  • Market and Business Development. Identify opportunities to expand CSA Group's fuel systems field services across commercial and industrial markets, particularly within major capital projects and large-scale fuel-fired installations. Leverage industry experience and relationships to understand customer needs, identify emerging applications, and support the development of new business opportunities.
  • Development and Enhancement of Services. Work with clients and CSA Group teams to develop, validate, and expand technical service offerings related to fuel-fired equipment, combustion systems, and associated infrastructure. Support the development of services addressing emerging fuels and technologies.
  • Technical Expertise and Industry Knowledge. Serve as a subject matter expert for fuel systems and combustion applications, providing technical guidance on equipment design, installation, operation, and applicable safety requirements. Support projects involving complex fuel-burning equipment and integrated fuel systems in large commercial and industrial installations.
  • Research. Research applicable legislative and regulatory requirements, safety codes and standards, testing protocols, and emerging industry technologies. Maintain awareness of developments in combustion, fuel systems, hydrogen, and alternative fuel applications.
  • Quotations. Assess client inquiries to determine CSA Group's technical capability to execute the proposed scope of work. Develop technical scopes, estimate required resources and labor hours, and support accurate project quotations and timelines.
  • Project Management. Coordinate with operational teams to ensure technical aspects of field evaluations and inspections meet applicable quality and safety requirements. Provide technical guidance, troubleshooting, and support in resolving complex project issues.
  • Workforce Planning. Support forecasting of future resource and competency requirements based on industry growth, major capital investments, and emerging technologies.
  • Technical Committees and Trade Shows. Represent CSA Group at relevant industry events, technical committees, and trade shows. Establish and maintain relationships with manufacturers, engineering firms, equipment suppliers, and other industry stakeholders.
  • Travel. Some travel, approximately 10% of the time, will be necessary for client meetings, project visits, and industry events.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related technical discipline, and/or six or more years of relevant industry experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with commercial or industrial fuel-fired equipment, combustion systems, or fuel infrastructure, preferably involving large-scale installations or major capital projects.
  • Strong understanding of fuel-burning equipment and related systems, such as boilers, burners, furnaces, gas turbines, combustion controls, and gaseous or liquid fuel storage and distribution systems.
  • Experience working with equipment manufacturers, engineering firms, industrial operators, EPC contractors, or companies involved in the design, installation, commissioning, or inspection of large-scale fuel systems.
  • Working knowledge of applicable safety codes and standards, including relevant CSA, ANSI, ASME, and NFPA requirements.
  • Experience with hydrogen, alternative fuels, or emerging combustion technologies is considered an asset.
  • Experience in the Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) industry, particularly field evaluations, field inspections, or conformity assessment, is considered an asset.
  • Experience in technical writing, standards development, testing protocols, or process development is an asset.
  • Established industry relationships and an understanding of the commercial and industrial fuel systems market are preferred.
  • Sales, business development, or technical customer-facing experience is an asset.
  • Strong technical problem-solving, mentoring, and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • High level of initiative and ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities, deadlines, and business objectives.
