The Salvation Army is seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher to join our independent school in Lawnton, supporting young people to reconnect with education and build positive futures.

Our school provides a safe, inclusive and trauma-informed learning environment for students in Years 10–12 who have become disengaged from mainstream education. We offer Australian Curriculum, QCAA and vocational pathways that enable students to achieve their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) while developing the confidence, resilience and life skills needed for long-term success.

As a Teacher, you'll do far more than deliver lessons. You'll be a mentor, advocate and positive role model, working collaboratively with Youth Workers and Education Support Officers to empower students to overcome barriers and achieve their goals.

What you'll be doing

  • Deliver engaging, differentiated learning programs that meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with students, families and community stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support students' academic, social and emotional development.
  • Foster a positive, high-support, high-expectation classroom culture where every student can thrive.
  • Develop, implement and regularly review Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and Senior Education and Training (SET) Plans.
  • Monitor student progress towards achieving their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE), vocational outcomes and personal goals.
  • Make appropriate curriculum adjustments to ensure equitable access to learning.
  • Participate in collaborative planning, case discussions and professional learning.
  • Use evidence-informed teaching practices to support student engagement, wellbeing and achievement.
  • Contribute to a school culture that reflects The Salvation Army's values of respect, inclusion, hope and transformation.

About you

You are a passionate educator who believes every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background or life experiences. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are committed to creating meaningful learning experiences for vulnerable young people.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Current teacher registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT).
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122 or equivalent), or experience delivering vocational education and training ( desirable)
  • Experience teaching in a secondary school environment.
  • An understanding of, or experience working with, students who have experienced trauma or disengagement from mainstream education.
  • Experience in Special Assistance Schools or alternative education settings will be highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of the Australian Curriculum (Version 9) and QCAA requirements.
  • The ability to differentiate learning and make appropriate curriculum adjustments.
  • Experience using explicit teaching strategies and evidence-based instructional practices.
  • A willingness to teach across multiple subject areas where required.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to supporting students with diverse learning, behavioural and social-emotional needs.
