Position Summary
We have a current vacancy for a Systems Engineering Intern or Coop to join our Team in Ottawa, Ontario.
Thales Canada, Defence & Security is engaged in supporting the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) through its In-Service Support (ISS) Programs. Between the AOPS & JSS In-Service Support (AJISS) and Minor Warships & Auxiliary Vessels (MWAV) programs, Thales Canada provides support to over 70% of the RCN fleet. Thales Canada is leveraging cutting edge solutions to deliver preventative and corrective maintenance, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), Program Management, Engineering and Lifecycle Material Management (LCMM), and new capabilities to numerous platforms.
Thales Canada is looking for people interested in directly contributing to Engineering Change (EC) in the AJISS program. A multi-disciplinary team develops and delivers enhanced and new capabilities for RCN platforms through a broad portfolio of EC projects. We are looking for engineering students to help us develop and document the Engineering Change process, develop tools to track and monitor KPIs. The are several areas where the students can help improve efficiency and reporting.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Work with the System Engineering and Engineering Delivery Manager teams to:
Support the development and documentation of the Engineering Change (EC) process in support of System Engineering V-Model.
Develop tools to track and monitor progress of each of the ECs.
Develop and deliver training materials on the EC process and tools
Providing engineering support for EC development – problem definition, solution investigation and design phases of engineering changes.
Creating high-level conceptual designs, innovative, scalable, and adaptive solutions for changes to ship designs as they arise gaining agreement to top level solution documentation.
Ensuring Thales Engineering Data correctly flows down to Integrated Product Team (IPT) members
Support in the verification and validation of electronic systems
Assist in risk management and risk mitigation strategies
Assist in obtaining stakeholder agreement about changes to and management of the system requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Being enrolled in Electrical/Systems/Mechanical Engineering program in accredited university.
High level oral and written communication skills required for report writing, design justification documentation, and interacting with the customer
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the Systems Engineering Life Cycle
High level of planning, task management, analytical, and time management skills
Experience reading and understanding mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
Programming / scripting experience in VBA, C#, or others

Special Position Requirements
Travel: Some overnight travel may be required (<10%)
The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash (TTC) $55,000 - $65,000 CAD Annual.
This reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. This range helps the Company make pay decisions as one data point among many.
