Hiring Unit: Department of Biology (Professor Jackie Vogel)
Position Summary:
- Assists with the construction of yeast strains following established laboratory protocols.
- Assists with plasmid isolation from bacterial cultures.
- Assists with yeast transformation procedures to create mutations.
- Assists with the dissection of spores to identify haploid progeny of diploid yeast.
- Assists with the genomic DNA extraction.
Qualifications:
- Attention to detail.
- Reliable.
- Motivated to learn.
- Team work, and good communication skills.
- Must be approved by the Work Study Program, McGill University.
Education/Experience:
- McGill Student.
- Bench work experience (0.5 years) or having successfully completed BIOL 301. (Bench experience is not absolutely required: any motivated person who is willing to learn is qualified for this position).
- Familiar with fundamental biology and genetics concepts and successful completion of BIOL 202 Genetics, BIOL 200 and 201, or equivalent.
Location: This position is located in Montreal, Quebec and the work for this position is expected to be performed in Quebec.
Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # (3) qualifier on a scale of 0-4.
