Job Title: Sr. Data Platform Engineer – Azure & Microsoft Fabric

The Job

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and analytics solutions on Microsoft Fabric. This role is central to our ongoing migration from Azure Synapse Analytics to Microsoft Fabric, and you will play a key part in shaping our modern data platform built on the Medallion Architecture.

The ideal candidate combines strong ETL/ELT engineering skills with hands-on experience integrating diverse API sources, a solid understanding of downstream analytics needs (Power BI, data profiling, and analysis), and the ability to support light DevOps activities. The role is structured as approximately 90% data engineering and 10% DevOps, so while your primary focus will be building and optimizing data pipelines, you will also help with pipeline deployment, environment management, and release coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines in Microsoft Fabric (Data Factory pipelines, Dataflows, Notebooks) to ingest, transform, and load data at scale.
• Implement and maintain a Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers) within OneLake, ensuring data quality, consistency, and reliability at each stage.
• Build and manage ETL/ELT processes to extract data from a variety of source systems, including REST/SOAP APIs, databases, files, and third-party services, landing data into Data Factory / OneLake.
• Lead and support the migration of existing Azure Synapse Analytics workloads (pipelines, dataflows, SQL pools) to Microsoft Fabric, ensuring minimal disruption and data integrity throughout.
• Write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and views for data transformation, validation, and reporting.
• Perform data profiling and data quality assessments to identify anomalies, inconsistencies, and gaps in source and transformed data.
• Collaborate with BI developers and analysts to ensure data models support efficient Power BI reporting and dashboarding.
• Partner with business and technical stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into scalable data engineering solutions.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize pipeline performance, ensuring reliability and cost efficiency.
• Support light DevOps activities (~10% of role) such as CI/CD deployment of pipelines, environment/version management in Azure DevOps or Git, and basic release coordination for Fabric artifacts.
• Document data flows, architecture decisions, and pipeline logic for maintainability and knowledge sharing.
• Apply data governance, security, and compliance best practices across the data platform.

Essential Requirements

• 5–8 years of experience in data engineering roles, with a strong ETL/ELT background.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Data Factory pipelines and OneLake.
• Solid, demonstrable experience with Azure Synapse Analytics — prior involvement in a Synapse-to-Fabric migration is a strong plus.
• Strong understanding and practical implementation experience of Medallion Architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold layers).
• Advanced SQL skills — query optimization, stored procedures, complex joins, and performance tuning.
• Experience integrating and consuming APIs (REST/SOAP) as data sources within pipeline development.
• Working knowledge of Power BI — data modeling, DAX basics, and report/dashboard support.
• Experience with data profiling and data quality validation techniques.
• Familiarity with version control (Git) and basic CI/CD practices for data pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps).
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data patterns and identify issues.
• Good understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modelling, and data lake architectures.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.

Desired Skills

• Experience with Python or PySpark for data transformation in Fabric Notebooks.
• Exposure to Azure DevOps for pipeline deployment and orchestration beyond basic CI/CD.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Purview or other data governance/cataloging tools.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer, Azure Data Engineer Associate).
