The Red Hat Kernel Maintainers team is looking for an Intern with some knowledge in Python, C, and git, who is interested in learning some of the CI/CD tooling around Red Hat kernel building, testing, and delivery to join us in Brno. In this role, you will contribute to enhancing and maintaining the tooling and automation of the Kernel Maintainers team. As an Intern on the team, you’ll be asked to contribute to software test writing and evaluation . This long-term internship will give you the opportunity to work within a team delivering critical kernel security updates at a world leading pace to Red Hat’s enterprise customers.

Red Hat’s Intern Program is a collaborative effort between the Emerging Talent team and our intern managers. The program is designed to offer a meaningful and well-rounded experience — combining professional development, networking opportunities, social engagement, and impactful work. This is a paid, part-time internship based in the Brno office, with flexible working hours. The expected start date is February 2027.
What you will do:
- Work with the Kernel Maintainers team developing and deploying tools that aid in Red Hat kernel development and delivery.
- Enhance test cases and testing for other non-kernel packages that the team maintains in Fedora or RHEL
- Take primary responsibility for development and testing of some of the features within our development roadmap.
- Learn how to leverage generative AI tooling to extend your ability, while being mindful of the need to constrain token spend and ensure quality
- Work within an Agile-Scrum team that covers both Dev and Ops
- Learn how to decompose a larger task or feature implementation into sprint sized pieces for incremental delivery.
What you will bring:
- You must be enrolled in an accredited university program in the Czech Republic during the full duration of the internship and must be able to join us part-time from February 2027 till January 2028
- Working knowledge of written and spoken English
- Experience programming in Python. Additional experience with C is a plus. Programming language(s) with knowledge of (e.g., programming in Python; Basic experience programming in Python)
- Experience with building and installing a linux kernel
- Solid understanding and familiarity with git and the GitLab MR workflow.
- Ability to work independently within a global collaborative team that frequently faces daily delivery responsibilities.
- Eagerness to learn and a willingness to innovate
