Role Summary

As a Senior NLP / LLM / LLMOps Data Scientist, you will work at the intersection of Natural Language Processing, Generative AI, Information Retrieval, and Machine Learning Engineering.

You will partner with ML Engineers, Customer Journey Experts, Product teams, and business stakeholders to design, build, and operationalize production-grade NLP and Generative AI solutions.

Your responsibilities will span the full lifecycle of AI development—from experimentation and model development to deployment, monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement.

As part of ING's global Analytics organization, you'll contribute to conversational AI and KYC capabilities supporting teams across multiple countries and business domains.

Work Model

Our hybrid working model is designed to balance collaboration, innovation, and personal flexibility. Team members typically come together in our Vadistanbul office for two days per week during three weeks of the month, while one week each month is fully remote.

We also offer additional flexibility during August, allowing colleagues to work remotely throughout the month.

As part of a globally distributed organization, you'll collaborate with colleagues across multiple ING locations while contributing to large-scale AI initiatives that create impact across the bank.

What You'll Build

As a Senior NLP / LLM / LLMOps Data Scientist, you'll help build and scale conversational AI and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions that support ING's KYC and customer operations across multiple countries.

Your work may include:

• Conversational AI and agent-assist capabilities.
• RAG solutions built on enterprise knowledge and regulated banking documentation.
• NLP pipelines for structured and unstructured text processing.
• Production-grade LLM applications and LLMOps capabilities, including evaluation, monitoring, experimentation, and continuous optimization.
• AI solutions designed for reliability, explainability, and regulatory compliance.

For example, you may develop solutions that help KYC agents retrieve relevant information, summarize documentation, support onboarding processes, and improve decision-making through explainable AI capabilities.

About You

We're looking for someone who combines strong NLP and LLM expertise with a production mindset and enjoys solving complex information-retrieval and conversational AI challenges.

You likely bring:

• 4+ years of experience in NLP, Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, or Generative AI.
• Experience building and deploying production-grade NLP or LLM-based applications.
• Strong Python skills and familiarity with modern Deep Learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Experience with Transformers, embeddings, RAG architectures, vector search, or conversational AI systems.
• Experience operationalizing Generative AI applications and working across the full ML lifecycle.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain AI concepts to both technical and business audiences.
• Fluent English.

Experience with GCP, Vertex AI, LangChain, LlamaIndex, Hugging Face, CI/CD, CD4ML, MLOps, or LLMOps practices will be considered an advantage.

To succeed in this role, you'll balance innovation with reliability, apply rigorous evaluation practices, and help build AI solutions that perform effectively in a highly regulated banking environment.
