Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform accurate, timely full-cycle bookkeeping (A/P, A/R, GL, bank and credit card eeds) in QuickBooks Online or Xero for a portfolio of Canadian small business clients.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly close packages, including reconciliations, accruals, and management reporting.
- Prepare year-end working papers, draft financial statements, and adjusting journal entries for partner review.
- Prepare Canadian corporate (T2) and personal (T1) tax returns, plus GST/HST filings, for partner review and final sign-off.
- Respond to routine correspondence with tax authority and prepare supporting documentation for the partners' review.
- Help build and mentor the offshore team as it grows; lead weekly team huddles and contribute to onboarding new staff.
- Communicate clearly with the partners in a fully remote, asynchronous environment using Zoom, Microsoft Suite and Loom.
- Identify opportunities to automate and improve our workflows using tools like Dext, HubDoc, Zapier, Claude Cowork and help shape the firm's evolving tech stack.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- A local professional designation (CPA Philippines, CA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent), completed or in progress, is preferred.
- At least 5+ years of progressive full-cycle bookkeeping and month-end close experience, ideally with North American, UK, or Australian clients.
- Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online (QBO) or Xero, with familiarity with their is preferred.
- Experience with Dext, Hubdoc, Plooto or Zapier is a strong asset and considered advantageous.
- Experience in building KPI dashboards using Power BI or advanced Excel is considered an asset.
- Canadian tax knowledge is not required. Training will be provided on preparing T1, T2, and GST/HST filings under partner review. Prior experience with Canadian, US, UK, or Australian tax work is considered an advantage but is not required.
- Willingness and ability to learn new software, with training provided on CaseWare and the Canadian tax platform CCH iFirm.
- Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail. You catch the small stuff before it reaches the partners.
- Excellent written and verbal English. You can translate numbers into plain English for non-accountants and write clear, complete handover notes.
- Willingness to overlap at least 4 hours per day with Eastern Time (UTC-5/UTC-4) business hours.
- Reliable home internet, a quiet work environment, and a workstation suitable for a fully remote role.
