The Salesforce MuleSoft Architect will serve as the senior technical architect for the DLA DAAS API Gateway program, providing architecture, design, development, integration, and technical governance for enterprise APIs and microservices implemented using the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform. The architect will define reusable API and integration patterns, guide development teams, support the DevSecOps/API Factory, and ensure solutions integrate securely and reliably with the DLA API Gateway environment.

The candidate should be able to design, develop, implement, publish, and sustain full APIs and proxy APIs that enable real-time data exchange between DLA systems, external systems, applications, databases, SaaS platforms, and trading partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture and technical design of MuleSoft APIs, proxy APIs, integrations, and microservices across the DLA API Gateway environment.
• Assess existing applications and interfaces and determine appropriate decomposition or modernization into API-led and microservices-based architectures.
• Define and enforce reusable architectural patterns, API standards, templates, design specifications, naming conventions, error-handling patterns, logging, monitoring, and security standards.
• Provide architecture guidance for System APIs, Process APIs, Experience APIs, proxy APIs, orchestration, transformation, and integration flows.
• Lead solution reviews and technical checkpoints from requirements analysis through design, development, testing, deployment, and sustainment.
• Develop and sustain the API/microservices factory, including reusable templates, automated pipelines, development standards, and CI/CD processes. Help develop and sustain a microservices factory and automate creation, deployment, and management through CI/CD.
• Collaborate with development teams to ensure APIs integrate seamlessly with the DAAS MuleSoft Anypoint architecture and comply with Government API standards.
• Provide technical leadership for integration with REST/SOAP services, databases, data warehouses, SaaS applications, legacy systems, enterprise platforms, and external trading partners.
• Define scalability, high availability, load-balancing, resiliency, rate-limiting, retry, caching, and performance patterns appropriate for mission-critical APIs.
• Ensure API designs incorporate authentication, authorization, least privilege, Segregation of Duties, logging, tracing, and cybersecurity requirements.
• Work closely with DevSecOps engineers to integrate automated builds, testing, security scanning, deployment, configuration management, and release controls.
• Provide API deployment and platform support through standardized templates, pipelines, and development guidelines.
• Support architecture troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, performance optimization, platform upgrades, and resolution of complex production integration issues.
• Mentor MuleSoft developers and external development teams and conduct architecture/design reviews to maintain platform consistency and rationalization.
• Support solution documentation including API Design Specifications, Solution Architecture Documentation, interface designs, deployment architecture, and technical standards.

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant integration/API architecture experience, with substantial hands-on experience designing enterprise solutions using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform. Experience should include API-led connectivity, Mule runtime, API Manager, Runtime Manager, Anypoint Exchange, DataWeave, REST/SOAP integrations, microservices, CI/CD, and enterprise integration architecture.

• Required / Preferred Certifications
• MuleSoft Certified Integration Architect – Level 1 – strongly preferred
• MuleSoft Certified Platform Architect – Level 1 – strongly preferred
• MuleSoft Certified Developer – Level 1
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, where applicable

• Relevant nationally recognized technical certification
• Currently have Certified MuleSoft Associate certification or able to get within six months after onboarding

Security / DoD Requirements

Should be a US Citizen with secret clearance. Candidate should be able to meet security requirements, including Moderate Risk, Non-Critical Sensitive/IT-II with Tier 3/NACLC/ANACI investigation, where applicable.

$175,000-$220,000 annually. Compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience, education, certifications, skills, and overall qualifications.  Candidates with higher rate expectations are still encouraged to apply
