About Redwood Materials

Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling — keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2017, we’re delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.

Redwood Materials is currently seeking a Staff Architect to join our Infrastructure Development team. This role is at the center of our activities focused on creating a sustainable circular economy for lithium-ion batteries by transforming recycled materials into battery materials for new lithium-ion battery production. In this role you will lead architectural design and code compliance for large-scale industrial battery recycling facilities from concept through construction. You will serve as Architect of Record on designated projects, act as a primary liaison to Authorities Having Jurisdiction, and mentor a growing internal design team.

Staff Architect, EPC

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead code analysis and life safety design and documentation, including occupancy classification, control areas and maximum allowable quantities for hazardous materials, egress, and fire-resistance-rated construction, through permit approval
  • Serve as a primary architectural liaison to Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs); develop and document permit exemption lists, lead Alternate Materials and Methods (AMM) requests and variances, and shepherd permitting processes with local officials
  • Develop architectural concepts and designs across various project types, producing detailed drawings, plans, and models using Revit and related BIM tools throughout all project phases — from concept through construction administration
  • Collaborate with design teams, leadership, consultants, contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders to ensure the successful integration of project objectives, particularly in scope and space optimization
  • Lead design coordination by working closely with design managers on project package structures, conducting field walks, and gathering stakeholder input
  • Scope, select, and manage external architectural consultants, including proposal review, deliverable quality, and schedule performance
  • Lead planning efforts by developing and updating concept plans, conceptualizing future needs, gathering feedback from key stakeholders, and ensuring alignment with company objectives
  • Develop process improvements, workflows, and templates to increase design productivity
  • Serve as Architect of Record on designated projects, stamping construction documents in Nevada and as required, in other project states
  • Provide construction observation and contract administration: RFI and submittal review, site observation reports, punch list, and closeout
  • Mentor junior architectural staff and support their path to licensure, including verification of NCARB AXP hours
  • Participate in project scheduling and cost estimating

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch) from a NAAB-accredited program, or a degree path accepted by NCARB for licensure
  • 10+ years of professional architectural experience, including at least 5 years on industrial, manufacturing, or process facility projects
  • Licensed Architect in Nevada, or currently licensed in another U.S. jurisdiction with an active NCARB Certificate and the ability to obtain Nevada licensure within six months of start
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D software, especially Revit and Bluebeam Revu; experience with Navisworks and Autodesk Construction Cloud (Forma) preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of the IBC, IFC, and ADA, construction documentation, detailing, and various project delivery methods, with relevant experience in sectors like manufacturing, pharmaceutical, food processing, or chemical/refining strongly preferred
  • Experience with hazardous materials code application — H-occupancy classification, control area design, and MAQ analysis — is a significant differentiator
  • Experience with design-build, progressive design-build, or EPC delivery on fast-track schedules
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple large projects and teams concurrently, meeting aggressive deadlines while resolving complex design and construction challenges
  • Willingness to drive projects to completion through innovative solutions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, engineers, contractors, and regulators while navigating conflicts
  • Experience in construction administration, ensuring quality control, problem-solving, and design solutions through all phases of a project
  • Highly organized with outstanding prioritization skills.

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
