The opportunity:
Our R&D teams develop breakthrough technologies that change the way the world works and how industries do business. Within Hitachi Energy Power Conversion Solutions, you will join a global, cross functional organization developing and industrializing high-power conversion platforms for renewable energy and energy storage applications. As Medium Voltage Electrical Engineer, you will own the electrical design and integration of medium voltage skid solutions that interface with our power converters. Power transformers are at the heart of this role: you will model, specify, validate and integrate them, alongside switchgear, protection and auxiliary systems, into safe and reliable power conversion solutions. Based in Bangalore, you will work closely with R&D, Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, Quality and Product Management teams locally and across our global organization, as well as with key equipment suppliers. The role combines strong technical ownership with a serial-production mindset. You will take designs from concept and calculation through supplier qualification, prototype builds, factory acceptance testing and site commissioning, supporting safe, reliable, cost-competitive and scalable products throughout their life cycle.
How will you Impact:
- Own the electrical design and integration of medium-voltage skid solutions interfacing with power conversion equipment.
- Define single-line diagrams, schematics, protection concepts, earthing, auxiliary systems, cabling and interfaces.
- Size and specify power transformers, switchgear, protection relays, current and voltage transformers, cables, busbars and auxiliary components.
- Perform and document short-circuit, cable, grounding, thermal and protection-coordination calculations.
- Prepare technical specifications and support supplier selection, design reviews, qualification and issue resolution.
- Coordinate mechanical layout, cooling, access, transport, installation and maintainability interfaces with other disciplines.
- Support prototype and pilot builds, factory acceptance tests, site commissioning and root-cause investigations.
- Release and maintain drawings, bills of materials, calculations, validation evidence and engineering changes.
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements, applicable IEC standards, safety rules and product architecture, as well as applicable external and internal regulations, procedures and guidelines.
- Living Hitachi Energy’s core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.
Your background:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent field.
• At least 8 years of experience designing medium-voltage electrical systems, power transformers, skids, substations or converter-integrated power equipment.
• Extensive hands-on power transformer expertise, a key competency for this role, covering modelling, specification, design validation, supplier technical management and integration within medium-voltage power conversion systems.
• Strong knowledge of medium-voltage switchgear, protection, earthing, auxiliary supplies, cables and electrical clearances.
• Experience performing load flow, short-circuit, protection-coordination, cable-sizing and grounding calculations.
• Professional experience with EPLAN, E3 or equivalent electrical CAD tools and the preparation of production drawings.
• Knowledge of IEC standards applicable to medium-voltage assemblies, transformers, electrical safety and power conversion equipment.
• Fluent English, with strong technical documentation, supplier coordination and problem-solving skills.
