The Team: 

Cash Line sits at the center of Upstart's mission to expand access to credit. As the Principal Product Manager, Cash Line, you will own our newest product end-to-end as  we’re proving out product-market fit. The choices you’ll make will directly determine whether our customers get access to money they need, when they need it, in ways that build greater financial stability for them and a strong business for Upstart.  Your mandate will matter, you will have real ownership, and we want you to  build  something category-defining from the ground up. 

How you’ll make an impact

• Set the strategy for a fast-growing credit product, balancing what's good for customers with what makes a healthy business, navigating some of the hardest tradeoffs in Fintech. 
• Turn insight into how people actually behave into product features that reward trust and unlock more value over time.
• Partner with Design, Engineering, ML,  Risk, Finance, and Analytics to translate business and financial goals  into a roadmap the team can execute against.
• Monitor the competitive landscape and adjust product and pricing decisions to keep Cash Line's offering competitive.
• Connect product decisions directly to business outcomes including contribution margin and cohort economics, operating with the accountability of a business leader as Cash Line matures.
• Leverage Upstart's existing underwriting, capital, and ecosystem strengths to grow Cash Line, while operating with the speed needed for a team still proving product-market fit.
• Set success metrics and use them to prioritize the highest-ROI opportunities, experimenting where an experiment is the right way to decide.

Minimum Qualifications 

• 8+ years of product management experience, including at least 2 years owning the strategy and roadmap for a business line or major consumer-facing initiative with direct revenue or unit-economics accountability.
• Experience taking a 0-to-1 or early-stage product from initial launch through proving product-market fit, including defining MVP scope and iterating based on data and feedback.
• Exceptional quantitative judgment, with the ability to assess funnel data, segment behavior, size opportunities, interpret experiments, and recognize unintended downstream effects. 
• Track record of leading complex cross-functional initiatives and aligning diverse stakeholders, from executive leaders to cross-functional partners, without relying on organizational authority. 
• Strong experimentation instincts, including hypothesis development, experiment design, A/B testing, results analysis, and knowing when a test is (or is not) the right decision-making mechanism. 
• Strong consumer product intuition, particularly around high-consideration decisions involving trust, uncertainty, or meaningful tradeoffs

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with subscription-based businesses. 
• Experiences building products or features that shape consumer habits. 
• Experience in consumer finance, fintech, or another regulated industry.
• Experience working with Machine Learning.

Position location This role is available in the following locations: Remote

Time zone requirements The team operates on the East/West coast time zones.

Travel requirements As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.
