Job Description Summary

Organization's Summary Statement: The Agroecology Lab at the University of Maryland invites applications for a Post-doctoral Associate to work on the Options to Adapting to Rising Seas (OARS) project, which is focused on developing a decision support tool for woodlot owners in Maryland who are experiencing coastal stressors like saltwater intrusion and sea level rise.

The Post-doctoral Associate will join a team of interdisciplinary researchers working to significantly improve the resilience and well-being of coastal communities in the Mid-Atlantic. This position offers a unique opportunity to utilize quantitative environmental science research methods to help bridge the gap between science, practice, and policy.


Physical Demands: Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data and presentations. Ability to lift and carry 25lbs. Regularly required to operate a computer.

Qualifications Required: Ph.D. in quantitative social science, resource economics, geography, environmental science, or a related field with a strong emphasis on science-informed decision support.

Preferences:
The selected candidate should have experience with working with geospatial databases and web-based tool development are strongly preferred. Knowledge of forest ecosystems and their management. They should have experience with coastal dynamics and climate change. The candidate should be highly organized, have excellent communication skills, the ability to work with diverse groups and quantitative data analysis skills.

Duties and Responsibilities: This 1-year position is based at the University of Maryland in collaboration with the Stanford Sustainability Accelerator Program. The work will primarily focus on development of a decision support tool for coastal land managers affected by coastal stressors. The applicant will be expected to:
●Manage diverse project activities
●Organizing disparate datasets to help inform decision making
●Run focus groups with stakeholders
●Administer and analyze stakeholder surveys
●Analyze forest management programs
●Contribute to geospatial data analysis
●Contribute to web tool development
●Organize and analyze data in order to prepare manuscripts based on findings.
●Demonstrate interpersonal skills in a professional setting.
●Be willing to travel out of state to network and collaborate with colleagues in the Mid-Atlantic.
●Present findings at regional or national meetings.
