Online Learning and Electronic Resources Librarian

Job Summary

The Online Learning and Electronic Resources Librarian provides strategic leadership and operational management for the lifecycle of electronic resources and the design of digital learning environments. In a collaborative team environment, this role is responsible for leading the design, coordination, and assessment of pedagogically sound, ADA-compliant digital learning objects (DLOs) while ensuring seamless, reliable access to the library’s electronic collections. Acting as a resource to other librarians and library colleagues, this position utilizes data-driven insights to manage electronic resources, supports online learners, provides reference assistance, conducts library instruction sessions, and serves as a library liaison to assigned academic departments.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Online Learning & Instructional Design

  • Coordinate the design, maintenance, and assessment of asynchronous Digital Learning Objects (DLOs), including videos, tutorials, and research guides.

  • Manages library services content management platform (Springshare), coordinates content creation and maintenance and provides statistical reports.

  • Serves as an instructional technology resource for fellow librarians, ensuring online pedagogy meets established accessibility guidelines (ADA compliance) and higher education standards.

  • Explores emerging technologies and stays current on trends in online learning and instructional technology.

Electronic Resource Management & Access

  • Work collaboratively with the Electronic Resources Specialist to ensure all electronic resources are active, discoverable, and accessible through all access points.

  • Manages the electronic resources management system (ERM), link resolvers, database menus, and discovery platforms.

  • Coordinates the workflow for subscriptions, trials, renewals, cancellations, and processes related invoices with collection and acquisition colleagues.

  • Manages licensing of electronic resources in collaboration with collection and acquisition colleagues.

  • Troubleshoots end-user access issues in coordination with the Electronic Resources Specialist, university IT support staff and vendors.

  • Maintains platform, publisher, collection, and title updates.

  • Work collaboratively with the Electronic Resources Specialist to manage the batch loading and maintenance of records from database vendors and collect, analyze, and manage statistics regarding resource usage (including COUNTER standards), budget, and collection data to support data-driven choices and generate analytical summaries.

  • Oversees the bibliographic control of collection materials.

Reference, Instruction, Collection Development, and Liaison Responsibilities

  • Serves as a subject liaison to students and faculty in assigned programs, selecting collection materials to support instructional and research needs.

  • Designs, delivers, and assesses information literacy and library instruction sessions both in person and online.

  • Provides comprehensive reference and research assistance through multiple modes (in-person, phone, email, and virtual), participating in evening and weekend desk rotations as required.

  • Participates as a non-voting member on appropriate Faculty Council committees, working collaboratively with faculty under the guidelines of the Faculty Handbook to support the University’s mission and vision.

Other Duties and Assignments

  • Collaborates on or leads various teams, task forces, and committees within Library & Learning Services, across the University, and within external library consortia.

  • Maintains an active awareness of issues facing academic libraries through continuous professional development.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Education: ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library or information science (MLS/MLIS) required. A second graduate degree is required for promotion within the librarian rank.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant library work experience required.

  • Supervision: Position has no direct formal direct reports, but the candidate must have the ability to train staff, facilitate workflows, and coordinate team-based projects.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Technical Systems: Experience using library services platforms (e.g., Alma/PrimoVE), integrated library systems (ILS), discovery tools, and technical metadata/cataloging standards (MARC, RDA, LCSH).

  • Authentication & Usage: Working knowledge of EZproxy, IP authentication, link resolvers, and COUNTER usage metrics.

  • Instructional Technology: Demonstrated understanding of online pedagogy and familiarity creating digital learning components with tools like Springshare, Camtasia, or similar platforms.

  • Core Competencies: Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and time management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and advanced database searching.

  • Teamwork: Ability to work independently with limited supervision while maintaining a strong commitment to collaboration in a dynamic, diverse environment.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Physical Environment: This role requires sitting continuously (over 2/3 of the work time) with occasional standing, walking, and light lifting up to 20 lbs.

  • Special Working Conditions: None. May require occasional evening/weekend rotation schedules for reference services.

The salary for this position is $78,000. It is competitive, market-based, and aligned with the University’s financial framework, ensuring your skills and experience are recognized and rewarded.
