Sobre este puesto de Nuclear Engineer (New Grad) en General Matter

General Matter · Presencial · Los Angeles, CA

About the company

General Matter enriches uranium.

We are designing, building, and operating the world’s lowest-cost enrichment services, here in the US.

In the process, we are restoring America’s ability to produce nuclear fuel to power AI, advanced manufacturing and critical industries our country relies on to remain competitive.

Fuel drives the cost of advanced reactor electricity production, and enrichment drives the cost of the fuel that advanced reactors consume.  Reliable, low-cost enrichment is the catalyst for the nuclear Renaissance now under way.

Our mission is to make nuclear not only the cleanest and safest source of baseload power, but also the most affordable.  We believe abundant nuclear energy will lead to a post-scarcity society.

We were incubated inside Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by over a dozen of the world's top venture capital firms.

Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.

We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.

Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.

About This Role

We're looking for a Nuclear Engineer (New Graduate) with a strong interest in regulatory compliance and licensing to join our growing engineering team. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers to support licensing actions, regulatory submissions, and engagement with regulatory authorities for a nuclear fuel cycle facility. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated graduate eager to contribute to high-reliability, highly regulated nuclear facility work.

Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation and review of licensing documents, including licensing applications, regulatory reports, amendment requests, and license renewal applications, in compliance with NRC requirements.
  • Assist in communication with regulatory agencies such as the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and help track timely resolution of inquiries.
  • Support the development and implementation of strategies to obtain and maintain licenses for new and existing nuclear facilities and projects.
  • Perform technical evaluations under the guidance of senior engineers to help ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., 10 CFR).
  • Help monitor changes to nuclear regulations and assess their impact on operations and licensing.
  • Support safety analyses, environmental reports, and risk assessments to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Work on documentation and technical writing to support licensing submissions and regulatory correspondence.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, legal, and environmental teams to help address licensing requirements and resolve regulatory issues.
  • Participate in inspections, audits, and regulatory meetings alongside senior team members.
  • Effectively communicate technical ideas within multidisciplinary project teams.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related field (recent graduate or upcoming).
  • Coursework in nuclear engineering fundamentals, reactor physics, or fuel cycle systems.
  • General familiarity with NRC regulations, including 10 CFR and related industry standards (e.g., ANSI, ASME).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise technical documentation.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and collaboratively across disciplines.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Internship experience in nuclear licensing, regulatory affairs, or a related technical role, especially projects involving nuclear or highly regulated facilities.
  • Evidence of exceptional ability (prior projects, portfolio of work, completed products, etc.).
  • Familiarity with nuclear facility operations and safety analyses.
  • Exposure to interacting with regulatory agencies, such as the NRC.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.

Sobre General Matter

General Matter is enriching uranium in America.

Our mission is to restore US leadership in nuclear fuel. This fuel will power AI, manufacturing, and other critical industries. It will enable the next generation of reactors and the reactors powering ~20% of the US grid today. Ultimately, it will power our national ambitions.

If we don’t do it, no one will.  Half a century ago, the US held a majority of all global enrichment capacity. Today we are forced to rely on foreign powers and their state-backed, state-controlled entities for the nuclear fuel that powers nearly 20% of our nation’s grid.

We are fixing this. By uniting the nation’s finest minds from technology, nuclear engineering, national security, and finance, we are building a new way to enrich uranium, here at home. The fuel we are enriching will be cheaper, more reliable, and more abundant than ever before, and it will result in a stronger America.

As we build our team we are seeking the highest caliber engineers, technologists, creative minds, and numbers savants. We offer high standards, extreme ownership, copious autonomy, deep trust, and zero politics. We believe that despite our ambitious mission, our chances of success are great. If you are someone who will further tilt those odds in our favor, we want to talk to you.
