The Mechanical Engineer II – Structural Analysis for Strategic Systems is responsible for ensuring the structural integrity and performance of advanced solid rocket propulsion systems and coordinating closely with an interdisciplinary team of engineers.
The position reports to the Analysis and M&P Team Manager and is part of the Strategic Systems Division based in Folsom, CA. This role is remote with teammates located in Folsom, CA, Reno, NV, and Huntsville, AL.
Essential functions:
- Perform stress analysis of complex hardware systems utilizing both first principles concepts and FEA software, interpret and validate analysis results, and provide recommendations to improve product design.
- Perform structural dynamics of multibody systems to identify critical modes, assess the response of the structure when subjected to random vibration and shock loading, and provide recommendations to improve product design.
- Understand fundamentals of CFD and thermal analysis methods and techniques, and how to incorporate these physics models within structural analyses.
Basic Qualifications:
- Familiarity with mechanical design concepts related to high precision hardware
- Familiarity with the physics of solid rocket motor systems
- An ability to interpret engineering drawings with an understanding of GD&T fundamentals and to utilize basic functionality of CAD software
- An ability to effectively communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college/university with 2 - 4 years of experience OR Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 0 - 2 years of experience OR PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 0 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a fast-paced space and defense industry environment
- Experience with solid or liquid rocket propulsion technologies
Travel, Physical and/or Government Mandated Requirements:
- Travel up to 10% of time
The good faith base salary range for this role is $92,000 – $135,000 at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive. This range may be adjusted in the future.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
