- Japan market strategy: Partner with regional and divisional leadership to define and execute a Japan commercial strategy that reflects local market dynamics, client priorities, regulatory developments, and growth opportunities.
· Senior client engagement: Build and deepen trusted relationships with C-suite executives, senior decision-makers, regulators, industry bodies, and strategic partners across Japan’s financial, corporate, and public-sector ecosystem.
· Team leadership and development: Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing account management team, fostering accountability, collaboration, inclusion, professional growth, and a strong client-first culture.
· Cross-divisional collaboration: Work closely with sales, product, marketing, customer success, commercial strategy, and business line stakeholders to deliver integrated client solutions and identify enterprise-wide growth opportunities.
· Client value and adoption: Ensure the team delivers measurable value to clients by improving product adoption, identifying evolving client needs, and positioning S&P Global as a strategic partner across the client lifecycle.
· Operational discipline: Drive consistent account planning, forecasting, renewal management, opportunity governance, and performance inspection to support predictable commercial outcomes.
· Culture and values: Represent and reinforce S&P Global’s values, maintaining the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, collaboration, and client service.
Core Skills and Requirements:
- 12+ years of commercial, account management, relationship management, sales, or client leadership experience in a relevant industry, ideally within financial information, data, analytics, technology, financial services, or capital markets.
- 7+ years of experience leading, coaching, and developing high-performing commercial teams, with a demonstrated ability to build talent, improve execution, and create a strong performance culture.
- Proven track record of delivering revenue growth, managing complex renewals, expanding strategic accounts, and meeting or exceeding financial targets.
· Strong understanding of the Japanese business environment, including relationship development, senior stakeholder engagement, consensus-building, and enterprise buying dynamics.
· Experience engaging senior executives across financial institutions, corporates, government-related entities, regulators, or industry associations in Japan.
· Excellent communication, negotiation, and executive presence, with the ability to influence effectively across cultures, functions, and seniority levels.
· Strategic and analytical mindset, with the ability to translate market insights, client needs, and commercial data into clear priorities and actionable plans.
· High personal integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to lead with credibility in a complex, matrixed, multinational organization.
· Entrepreneurial and proactive mindset, balanced with disciplined execution, stakeholder alignment, and a long-term relationship orientation appropriate for the Japanese market.
· Fluency in Japanese and English is strongly preferred to support senior client engagement, internal collaboration, and market representation.
Leadership Profile
The ideal candidate is a mature, trusted, and commercially ambitious leader who can operate externally with senior Japanese clients and internally across a global matrix. They will be comfortable balancing growth ambition with disciplined execution, building long-term partnerships while driving measurable commercial outcomes. This leader should bring curiosity, resilience, cultural awareness, and a strong commitment to developing people and strengthening S&P Global’s position in Japan.
