Automation Technology Team
The Automation Technology in Engineering Innovation and Integration Team at Dyson is responsible for delivering end-to-end, innovative, and robust automation solutions and test systems to support product verification and validation. The team brings together expertise across mechanical, mechatronics, calibration, engineering software, robotics, electronics, and electrical engineering disciplines. Our mission is to review and interpret verification requirements, design and develop effective hardware and software systems, and integrate these into high-quality, cost-effective, and safe automated solutions—whether mechanized or robotic—delivered on-time to meet stakeholder and product needs.
- Requirement Analysis: Review and clarify test/automation requirements with stakeholders to ensure technical and functional needs, safety, and compliance standards are fully captured.
- Solution Design & Development: Design and develop hardware and software systems for test rigs and automated solutions, leveraging mechanical, electrical, software, and robotics expertise as required.
- System Integration: Integrate and validate hardware (mechanical, electrical, electronic) and software (controls, automation scripts, user interface) to deliver complete, reliable, and robust automation solutions.
- Versatility & Multidisciplinary Engineering: Apply skills flexibly across calibration, mechanical, mechatronics, electronics, software, and robotics, individually or as part of a team, to solve complex engineering challenges.
- Quality, Cost, and Timeliness: Deliver solutions that achieve expectations for quality, cost control, and meet project timelines.
- Safety: Prioritize safety in all aspects of design, development, integration, and operation, adhering to relevant standards and best practices.
- Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities to improve efficiency, functionality, and performance of automation/test solutions through innovative engineering.
- Documentation: Maintain clear, accurate engineering documentation for requirements, design, validation, user operation, and compliance.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders (e.g., Product Verification, R&D, Quality, Operations) to ensure alignment and successful project delivery.
- Support & Knowledge Sharing: Support deployment, troubleshooting, operator training, and facilitate technical knowledge sharing within the team and with partners.
Skill Set – Specific Accountability/Deliverables where applicable
a) Electronics & Software Engineer
- Design, implement, and debug electronic circuits, wiring, and embedded or automation software (e.g., LabVIEW, Python, PLC) according to project specifications.
- Integrate sensors, actuators, and controls in automated systems with attention to EMC and functional safety.
- Support calibration of electronic modules and maintain up-to-date records/documentation for electronics and software systems.
b) Mechatronics, Industry & Automation Engineer
- Develop and assemble electro-mechanical and automation systems using CAD for design, Vision Systems and PLC for system programming and control.
- Integrate and validate sensors, actuators, and interface modules in industrial/mechanized testers, ensuring efficient, safe, and compliant operation.
- Support calibration activities, manage equipment health and preventive maintenance schedules, and maintain thorough documentation for mechanical and automation assets.
c) Mechatronics & Robot Automation Engineer
- Program, implement, and test robotic (collaborative/industrial) and mechanized automation systems as per test or manufacturing requirements.
- Use CAD for mechanical part design and integration, and assist in assembling/mechanizing robot cells, ensuring all safety procedures and standards are followed.
- Support calibration of mechatronic equipment, equipment management, and maintain clear system and operation documentation.
Academic & Experience Required / Key Skills which relevant
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Industrial, Automation, Robotics, Mechanical, Computer Science, or related).
- 1+ years of relevant experience preferred; internships or project experience in automation, test systems, or calibration desirable.
- Practical skills in one or more: electronic design, software programming (LabVIEW, Python, PLC, C/C++), CAD design, Vision system, mechanical assembly, robot/automation integration, calibration and equipment management.
- Understanding of engineering fundamentals, regulatory and safety standards, and documentation best practices.
- Strong troubleshooting ability, multi-disciplinary teaming, and drive to learn.
- Clear communication and effective documentation skills.
