Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

• Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
• Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
• Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Join us as a Customer Journey - Software Engineer - AVP at Barclays, where you'll spearhead the evolution of our digital landscape, driving innovation and excellence. We are looking for an experienced AVP Software Engineer who can lead the design, development and delivery of secure, scalable and resilient applications, with primary accountability for customer journey solutions. This role combines hand-on engineering, technical oversight, project delivery ownership on key web technologies.

You will be responsible for building high-performing teams, drive engineering excellence through modern architecture, High-quality engineering, automation, security, CICD and operational best practices while leading, developing and contributing to a high-performing mobile engineering team to deliver high-quality customer experiences.

To be a successful Customer Journey - Software Engineer - AVP, you should have experience with:

• Ability to design, build, test, and operate production services using technologies such as REACT, JavaScript / TypeScript, HTML, CSS, AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes, together with the desire to broaden your expertise.
• Design web solution catering accessibility and responsive requirement.
• Component development using Node-based build tooling
• Supporting end-to-end testing.
• Ability to use AI engineering tools to accelerate research, code understanding, prototyping, implementation, and documentation while applying sound engineering judgment.
• Experience building production services, distributed systems, or shared platform capabilities.
• Experience working with APIs, RESTful services, integration contracts, and data or domain models.
• Experience with authentication, authorization, and identity management.
• Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly, collaborate across teams and time zones, and support other engineers through feedback and knowledge sharing.
• DevOps Skillsets: Gitlab, Terraform, Ansible, Datadog, constrainers and Helm.

• Strong understanding of application architecture, dependency management, and maintainable code design.
